Canario went 1-for-2 with a walk and a double Sunday against Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
Canario has slowly taken over as Pittsburgh's starting left fielder since the start of May, but the team appears to be committed to giving him a consistent shot in three games since Don Kelly took over as manager. He has started each of those matchups while hitting in the bottom third of the order. Canario provides some needed pop to the Pittsburgh lineup, and he has three extra-base hits in that three-game span.

Canario went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 2-1 win over Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
Canario got the scoring started in the third inning, when he took Bryce Elder deep to right field for a solo home run. It was Canario's second home run of the season, and he has logged at least one hit in four of his last five games. He has picked up more starts in the outfield as of late due to Tommy Pham's poor start to the season.

Canario is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Though he'll hit the bench for the series finale, Canario seems to be encroaching on the struggling Tommy Pham's playing time in left field. Canario had started each of the last three games while going 3-for-11 with a walk, an RBI and a run. Pham -- who owns a .461 OPS for the season -- will be back in the starting nine Sunday, but another poor showing at the plate could open the door for Canario to pick up more starts.

Canario went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and a second run scored in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Canario was responsible for Pittsburgh's lone run off Andrew Abbott -- he led off the fifth inning with a 402-blast off the left-hander to center field, cutting the Pirates' deficit to 4-1. The home run was just Canario's second hit in seven games this year. The 24-year-old outfielder has displayed impressive power in the minor leagues, hitting 37 home runs across three levels in 2022, but he has yet to get an extended run in the majors.

The Pirates acquired Canario from the Mets on Monday in exchange for cash considerations, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Canario is out of minor-league options, so he will join the Pirates' major-league roster. The 24-year-old looks to be in line for a reserve role in Pittsburgh, but he's a flier with some upside.

The Mets designated Canario for assignment Thursday, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Mets acquired Canario this offseason in a trade with the Cubs, and the 24-year-old did a nice job in spring training, logging a 1.030 OPS with three homers and eight RBI through 43 plate appearances. He'll ultimately miss the cut for New York's Opening Day roster, but his age and consistent success at the plate are sure to draw attention from other clubs on the waiver wire.

Canario was traded from the Cubs to the Mets in exchange for cash considerations Monday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Canario has showcased plenty of power during his time in the minors. He belted 18 home runs at Triple-A Iowa during the 2024 campaign, though he's appeared in only 21 total games in the major leagues during his professional career. Canario will get a spot on the 40-man roster upon his arrival to New York with the Mets freeing up a spot by placing Nick Madrigal (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list.

The Cubs designated Canario for assignment Thursday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Justin Turner, whose signing has been made official. Canario has an .857 OPS but a 42.2 percent strikeout rate during his brief time in the majors over the last two seasons. Strikeout issues and a lack of minor-league options could limit Canario's appeal, but the Cubs should be able to find a trade partner willing to gamble on the 24-year-old's power upside.

Canario received reps at first base Tuesday as the Cubs explore their reserve options behind starter Michael Busch, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 24-year-old Canario has a good chance to make the Opening Day roster since he's out of minor-league options, and adding some positional versatility might help him secure a bench job. Canario has played in just 21 big-league games, striking out 19 times in 45 plate appearances, which is consistent with his 30.4 percent strikeout rate at Triple-A Iowa last year.
