Canario dislocated his shoulder and underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Canario is in the Giants' future plans, as he was a part of the team's 60-man player pool this summer and was also impressing during the Instructional League. The injury sets back his timeline to reach the big leagues, however, as he has yet to play in any full-season league as a professional. No timetable for Canario to return to baseball activities has been announced.

Canario was added to the Giants' player pool Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Canario is highly unlikely to make his big-league debut this season, as he's yet to advance beyond short-season ball. The 20-year-old is an interesting prospect with a strong arm and big raw power, but his inclusion in the pool is likely nothing more than an attempt to help him continue his development as smoothly as possible in a very disrupted 2020 campaign.

OF PIT
Canario is hitting .278/.395/.444 with four home runs, eight steals (on 11 attempts) and a 37:22 K:BB in 153 plate appearances in the AZL.
EDGE Analysis
He got off to a really slow start, hitting .143 in June, but he hit .333 in July and is hitting .316 so far in August, so he has lived up to the hype after an initial adjustment period. While Canario has excellent bat speed, he can be susceptible to offspeed pitches, so there will likely be plenty more adjustment periods as he moves up the ranks. Look for him to open the 2019 season at Low-A.

Canario is opening the year in extended spring training, MLB.com's Jim Callis reports.
EDGE Analysis
He was one of the best hitters in the Dominican Summer League last year, but it would have been a big stretch for him to be assigned to Low-A to start the year. Once the short-season leagues begin play, Canario has a chance to shoot up prospect rankings, as he has not yet displayed any weaknesses offensively. He hit .294/.391/.464 with five home runs, 18 steals and a 40:33 K:BB in 274 plate appearances last season.
