Rios has been diagnosed with chickenpox and could miss at least two weeks, The Kansas City Star reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's now clear what ailment Rios is dealing with, and it appears it could sideline him for a bit. The Royals figure to let Rios take as long as he needs to recover from the illness, so he may not be back on the field until mid-to-late September. Jarrod Dyson and Jonny Gomes are the top candidates to see extra at-bats in Rios' place.

Rios is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
With Rios stuck in an 0-for-11 funk over his last three games that has sent his season batting average below the .200 mark, manager Ned Yost will give the veteran outfielder a needed day off. Jarrod Dyson gets the nod in right field, in what should only be a one-day arrangement before Rios reclaims regular duties.

Rios is out of Satuday's lineup against the Rangers, Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports.
This will be Rios' first day off since he returned last Sunday. It's not crazy to think the 34-year-old will see semi-frequent days off moving forward given his age and Jarrod Dyson's defensive value as a replacement.

Rios will start in right field and bat seventh in his return Saturday, Matthew DeFranks of FOX Sports Kansas City reports.
The 34-year-old batted primarily out of the seven-hole in the brief period before he hit the DL. It seems he will continue to hit in the bottom third of the order until he forced manager Ned Yost's hand with his performance.
