Mariners prospect Alex Liddi was dropped from his Dominican Winter League team on Tuesday. You can't make this stuff up, people. Liddi, who was recently cut from his Venezuelan Winter League team, was let go after going 0-for-7 with three strikeouts and four errors in just three games with Leones del Escojido. It's not known whether he'll return home for the remainder of the offseason or attempt to latch on elsewhere.

Mariners prospect Alex Liddi has signed on with Leones del Escojido of the Dominican Winter League. Liddi was dismissed from his first DWL team after going 6-for-44 (.161) with a .519 OPS in his first few weeks with the club. He's now 0-for-7 with Escojido, but the experience should be good for the 23-year-old.

Mariners prospect Alex Liddi has been sent home early by his Venezuelan Winter League team. Liddi went 6-for-44 (.161) with a .519 OPS during his time in Venezuela. "He had some struggles down there and it's tough for a real young kid in those leagues,'' Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik said Thursday. "When you get off to a slow start, they often like to make changes and go with more experienced players." Liddi is expected to open the 2012 season at Triple-A Tacoma.

Alex Liddi's double was one of just two Mariners hits in Wednesday's season-ending loss to the A's. Tonight's effort was nothing if not fitting for the Mariners, who will finish the year with a major-league low 556 runs. That's just 43 more than they scored in a 2010 many considered the worst offensive season of the DH era. As for Liddi, he'll finish his first major league cup of coffee with a .225/.295/.525 triple slash posted in 44 plate appearances. He should begin 2012 in Triple-A.

Alex Liddi went 2-for-4 and hit his first big-league homer versus the Indians on Monday. Liddi had been 1-for-12 with seven strikeouts since his callup. His game still needs some polish, so he'll head back to Triple-A next year. His power is promising, though.

Mariners recalled INF Alex Liddi from Triple-A Tacoma. Liddi is the first Italian-born major-leaguer since Reno Bertoia in 1953. The 23-year-old batted .258/.332/.478 with 28 home runs and 101 RBI over 632 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. It's not known how much he'll play down the stretch, as Kyle Seager and Chone Figgins also figure to get playing time at third base.

The Mariners will call up third baseman Alex Liddi from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday. Liddi will be the first player from the MLB European Academy to make the major leagues. The 23-year-old Italian native batted .258/.332/.478 with 28 home runs and 101 RBI over 632 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. The power is encouraging, but he could struggle to hit for a high batting average in the big leagues. The Mariners also plan to promote outfielder Michael Saunders and right-hander Steve Delabar.
