An outfield collision Friday left Dickerson with a bruised hip and resulted in a three-game absence, but he will return Tuesday to face right-hander Zach Davies. Dickerson has been excellent since his return to the majors in late June, going 22-for-75 (.293 average) with five homers, 13 RBI and seven strikeouts. He's making contact at an 86.8 percent clip with the big club this year (11.1 percent strikeout rate).

Even after the Melvin Upton Jr, the Padres organization still overstocked with outfield talent, with Manuel Margot and Hunter Renfroe tearing up the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. Still, it would be hard to imagine Dickerson losing playing time if he continues anything close to his recent pace at the plate.

Dickerson went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's loss to the Blue Jays.

The outfielder has started each of the past two days, collecting six hits, two home runs, three RBI and four runs scored in the process. Dickerson had been struggling at the dish after the All-Star break, but these two games could be the start of a turnaround for the lefty. He's now hitting .280 with four home runs over 75 Major League at-bats this season.
