Cobb (fingernail) will rejoin the rotation Sunday against the Pirates, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cobb will wind up spending just one day beyond the minimum on the 15-day injured list due to a cracked fingernail on his pitching hand. He did not make a rehab start, but given the brief absence, Cobb should be able to handle a relatively normal workload versus the Pirates.

Guardians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti said that Cobb (fingernail) was scheduled to throw a bullpen session Sunday, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team hasn't provided an update regarding how Cobb felt coming out of the side session, but assuming he was able to throw all his pitches without being inhibited by the fractured nail on his right hand, he should throw a live batting practice session by the middle of the week. Given that Cobb was first placed on the 15-day injured list this past Monday due to the fingernail issue, he may not need a minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated.

The Guardians placed Cobb on the 15-day injured list Monday with a fractured nail on his right hand.
EDGE Analysis
Cobb last pitched Aug. 14 and it's not clear whether he suffered the injury that day or since then. He had been tentatively slated to start Tuesday against the Yankees. Joey Cantillo could be a logical option to come up and pitch Tuesday or Wednesday, having last pitched at Triple-A last Thursday. Cobb has allowed six runs (five earned) over 10.1 innings in his first two starts with the Guardians.

Cobb (1-1) earned the win over Cleveland on Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 5.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Cobb struggled in his team debut last Friday, allowing five runs (four earned) over 4.2 frames. He was much better in his second outing, yielding just a fourth-inning run while getting through 5.2 frames on a relatively efficient 80 pitches. Cobb may still be on a mildly regulated pitch count since he missed the first four-plus months of the campaign following offseason hip surgery and topped out at 69 pitches during his minor-league rehab stint, but he should have any restriction lifted soon. His next start is projected to be a tough matchup against the Yankees in New York.

Cobb (0-1) took the loss in the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the Twins, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
Making his first start since last September, Cobb was shaky out of the gate, allowing a run in each of the first two innings, before giving up a three-run homer to Matt Wallner in the fifth. The 36-year-old Cobb was solid with San Francisco last year, going. 7-7 with a 3.87 ERA in 28 starts. He's currently slated to make his next start next week at home versus the Cubs.

Cobb (hip/shoulder/finger) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list ahead of his start in the second game of Friday's doubleheader versus Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
Cobb has been on the shelf all season while recovering from a left hip procedure he underwent in the offseason as well as various other injuries he suffered during rehab. He's now set to make his season debut for the Guardians after being traded from San Francisco ahead of the trade deadline. The 36-year-old righty posted a 3.52 ERA and 1.26 WHIP while striking out 29 batters across 23 innings during his rehab assignment, and he was able to throw 69 pitches (4.2 innings) during his most recent minor-league outing. Anthony Gose was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said Monday that Cobb (hip) is on track to return from the 60-day injured list to make a start at some point during this weekend's four-game series in Minnesota, Chris Assenheimer of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cobb has spent the entire 2024 campaign on the IL while working his way back from offseason left hip surgery and hitting a couple road bumps in the rehab process along the way, but he looks to be back to optimal health and fully stretched out for a starting role. After Cobb made six rehab appearances from June 30 through July 26, he was traded from the Giants to the Guardians last week and shifted his rehab assignment to Triple-A Columbus. He looked good during his start with Columbus on Saturday, tossing 69 pitches and covering 4.2 innings while striking out five and allowing five baserunners.

Cobb (hip/shoulder/finger) covered 4.2 innings in his rehab start Saturday with Triple-A Columbus, striking out five while allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks.
EDGE Analysis
Cobb spotted 44 of his 69 pitches and sported a fastball that maxed out at 94.9 miles per hour. The right-hander has now made seven rehab starts overall, but Saturday's was his first as a member of the Guardians organization after he was acquired from the Giants on Tuesday. At this point, Cobb looks to be fully stretched back out after having spent all season on the injured list up to this point while recovering from offseason hip surgery. Cobb also had his rehab program slowed down by a sore shoulder and more recently, a blister, but neither issue looks to be a concern moving forward. Assuming the Guardians were satisfied with how Cobb fared Saturday, he could come off the 60-day IL and make his 2024 MLB debut as soon as Friday, when the Guardians will begin a four-game series with the Twins with a doubleheader.

Cobb (hip/shoulder/blister) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Columbus on Saturday, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Various injuries have prevented Cobb from pitching in the majors this season, though he could be added to the Guardians' rotation if everything goes well during his next rehab outing. Assuming Saturday is his final start in the minors, the 36-year-old righty would be lined up to make his season debut Aug. 9 during a doubleheader with the Twins.

The Guardians acquired Cobb (hip/shoulder/blister) from the Giants on Tuesday in exchange for Jacob Bresnahan and a player to be named later, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cobb has yet to pitch in the majors this season while recovering from a variety of injuries but had been expected to make a start for the Giants this weekend. The Guardians plan to give him one more rehab start before inserting him into their rotation next week, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Hayden Birdsong is expected to take Cobb's spot in the Giants' rotation.
