Thomas will represent the Diamondbacks in the All-Star Futures Game during All-Star weekend, Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports.

Thomas is currently hitting .282 with 11 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 23 RBI for Double-A Amarillo. It's been a nice bounce back season for Thomas, who experienced growing pains at High-A Visalia in 2019.

Thomas had a .312/.393/.479 slash line at Low-A Kane County before an August promotion to Visalia, where he hit .255/.327/.340 and raised his strikeout rate to 31.7 percent over 23 games. He rebounded in the playoffs, helping the Rawhide win the California League championship with a walk-off base hit in the deciding game. Thomas had hit well at every minor-league stop since being drafted in the second round of the 2018 draft, but the center fielder ran into his first taste of adversity at Visalia. "I expanded my zone and got a little too aggressive," he said. "In the playoffs, I stopped being so aggressive, and I'd end up getting a pitch I liked. The results were better." The soon-to-be 20-year-old Thomas is considered an advanced hitter for his age and covers a lot of ground in center field. He'll continue to work on managing the strike zone once the 2020 season kicks off.

Thomas was promoted to High-A Visalia on Saturday.

Thomas hit .312/.393/.479 with eight home runs, 11 steals and a 17.9 percent strikeout rate in 91 games for Low-A Kane County en route to establishing himself as a top-50 prospect for dynasty leagues.

Thomas had a two-game stretch this week in which he went 9-for-10, including hitting for the cycle for Low-A Kane County.

EDGE Analysis

The 19-year-old outfielder had five hits Tuesday, falling a home run short of the cycle, then accomplished the feat Wednesday when he had four hits. Thomas, Arizona's second pick (63rd overall) in the 2018 draft, is mashing for the Cougars, leading them in average (.308), slugging (.498) and OPS (.888). Wednesday's homer was the eighth for Thomas, the Diamondbacks' No. 2 fantasy prospect, and he represented the Cougars in the Home Run Derby as part of the Midwest League All-Star Game festivities in June.

Thomas went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks for rookie-level Missoula in its 9-6 win over Orem on Sunday.

EDGE Analysis

The 18-year-old, a second-round selection in the 2018 first-year player draft, has been unchallenged through his first nine games in the Pioneer League. He's turned in multi-hit performances in six of those contests while posting a stellar 5:6 BB:K. Thomas is already making a case for an assignment to a full-season affiliate, but the Diamondbacks may prefer to wait until 2019 before sending him to the Midwest League.
