Reed was placed on the minor-league injured list Wednesday with an oblique strain, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Reed is off to a slow start with Triple-A Round Rock by slashing .163/.250/.209 with 19 strikeouts in 43 at-bats. The 25-year-old will be eligible to return April 24 but the severity of the injury is not known.

Reed was optioned to Triple-A on Friday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Reed was always a long shot to break camp with the Astros, and he didn't help his case by hitting .167/.250/.333 with 14 strikeouts in 30 at-bats this spring. The 25-year-old has no clear path to playing time in Houston, so he'll continue to toil away in the minors for the time being.

Reed was optioned to Triple-A Fresco on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Reed appeared in just one game, going 0-for-3 Friday against the Rays. He's hit a solid .266/.379/.536 for Fresno this season. Joe Smith (elbow) was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list in a corresponding move.

Reed started at first base Friday in place of Yulieski Gurriel (personal) and went 0-for-3 in a 3-2 loss to the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
Reed made no impact as a hitter, however, he was involved in a game-deciding sequence in the field. He was unable to scoop a low throw that paved the way for two unearned runs to score. Reed made his first start since being called up from Triple-A Fresno on Thursday, when Gurriel left the team on paternity leave. He's expected to return no later than Sunday.

Reed was called up from Triple-A Fresno on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Yulieski Gurriel away from the team while awaiting the birth of his child, Reed will step in and provide extra depth at first base in his absence. It seems likely that Reed will be shipped back down to the minors once Gurriel is reinstated from the paternity leave list, but the former has continued to prove his worth at the Triple-A level this season, recording an OPS of .915 with 18 home runs and 67 RBI in 73 games.

Reed was optioned to Triple-A Fresno on Monday, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic Houston reports.
EDGE Analysis
Reed was in the mix for one of the final roster spots after Yulieski Gurriel (hand) was ruled out for the start of the season. The 24-year-old put up a good fight for the role, batting .298 with two homers, four RBI and eight runs scored, but it ultimately wasn't enough to earn the spot. Reed will now turn his focus to getting ready for the Triple-A season while J.D. Davis and Tyler White duke it out for the final roster spot.

Reed went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's game against the Nationals.
EDGE Analysis
Reed's homered in two straight games, but is hitting just .174 through nine spring games. He continues to battle with J.D. Davis (.455, two HR) and Tyler White (.188) for the opportunity to fill in for Yulieski Gurriel, who will be out until mid-to-late April with a hand injury.

Reed went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in Wednesday's game against Minnesota.
EDGE Analysis
Reed got the start at first base on the day it was announced Yulieski Gurriel underwent surgery on his left hand. Reed is one of several players in competition to fill in for Gurriel, who is expected to be out until mid-to-late April at the earliest. Being that it's a hand injury and understanding his swing could be impacted, that timeline could push out until May. Reed has the body and the bat to be a first baseman, but his MLB track record is wanting. In the coming weeks, expect to see Tyler White and J.D. Davis get time at first, although when Houston breaks camp, there's a good chance Marwin Gonzalez will be the primary starter at first.

Reed could see regular playing time at first base to start the season following the news of Yulieski Gurriel's (hand) surgery, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic Houston reports.
EDGE Analysis
Reed mashed 34 homers at Triple-A Fresno last season, but he only appeared in the majors for two games, going 0-for-6 in those contests. This could've been big news for him given the potency of the rest of Houston's lineup, but expectations should be tempered. Gurriel is only expected to miss the first couple weeks of the season, so Reed wouldn't even get that much extra playing time. Additionally, J.D. Davis and Tyler White are also competing for the spot, making it even tougher for Reed to make an impact.

Reed has a chance to win a roster spot to start the season, the Astros official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Reed hit .261/.358/.525 at Triple-A Fresno last season but received just six plate appearances for the big-league club. With Yuli Gurriel starting the season with a five-game suspension, a spot could be open for Reed, at least for the first few games of the year. The Astros have Evan Gattis holding down the designated hitter spot and Marwin Gonzalez perfectly capable of filling in at first base, though, so Reed will have to impress to stick on the roster.
