Wainwright (0-2) took the loss Wednesday versus the Nationals after surrendering four runs (three earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks across five innings.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander never had much of a chance to avoid being charged with the loss Wednesday, as the Cardinals didn't score a run and mustered only five hits. Wainwright has allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on 19 hits with a 14:4 K:BB over 12.2 innings through three starts, and he'll have another matchup with Washington early next week.

Wainwright allowed one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out six across five innings in Thursday's win over the Brewers. He did not factor in the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Wainwright's only earned run came when Keston Hiura scored from second base on a pickoff attempt in the third inning. Thursday's outing looked much better than Wainwright's first start, when he allowed six earned runs in 2.2 innings against the Reds. The veteran got six swinging strikeouts, showing that he was more comfortable with his command against the Brewers. The righty will look for his first win of the season in his next start against the Nationals.

Wainwright (0-1) gave up six runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out one batter over 2.2 innings in a loss to the Reds on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
After cruising through the first two frames, Wainwright gave up a six-spot in the third. Nothing was hit particularly hard after Tucker Barnhart's two-run homer early in the inning, so the line was probably uglier than Wainwright deserved, although it can't all be chalked up to "bad luck." The 39-year-old's declining strikeout rate leaves him susceptible to BABIP variance and volatility. Up next is a home start against the Brewers.

Wainwright allowed two earned runs on three hits and a walk over 2.2 innings in a Grapefruit League tie with the Mets on Monday. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
In his final tune-up before a scheduled turn in the second game of the regular season Saturday against the Reds, Wainwright worked up to 47 pitches, throwing 31 for strikes but also getting tagged for a pair of doubles in what was his most hittable outing of a very strong spring overall. Even factoring in Monday's uneven performance, the 39-year-old wrapped up Grapefruit League play with a 2.42 ERA, .156 BAA and 0.72 WHIP across 22.1 innings covering six starts.

Wainwright allowed an earned run on two hits and a walk over six innings in a Grapefruit League tie with the Nationals on Tuesday, He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
Wainwright worked up to 76 pitches in what projects as his penultimate spring turn, and likely his last one of comparable duration. The right-hander now has a 1.83 ERA over 19.2 innings this spring and lines up to take the ball after Opening Day starter Jack Flaherty against the Reds in the first series of the regular season.

Wainwright allowed two earned runs on five hits and a walk over 4.2 innings in a Grapefruit League tie with the Astros on Wednesday. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander entered Wednesday's start with three brilliant Grapefruit League outings already under his belt, so the two runs he allowed in the fourth and fifth innings were actually an outlier for Wainwright this spring. Although he battled more adversity against Houston than in any of his first three trips to the mound, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports that may have been a blessing in disguise for the 39-year-old in terms of getting him battle tested. "More the same of Waino. He got tested a little bit more tonight, which is probably good to get out there and get out of the stretch more," manager Mike Shildt said.

Wainwright allowed just a hit and a walk over four scoreless innings in a Grapefruit League win over the Astros on Friday. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander worked up to 41 pitches and found the strike zone on 25 of them, lowering his spring ERA to 1.00 in the process. One of the most encouraging aspects of Wainwright's spring is the life and stamina of his 39-year-old arm, with Zachary Silver of MLB.com relaying Wainwright apparently still had plenty left in the tank Friday. "Got through four, and he goes, 'I can go nine tonight,'" manager Mike Shildt said.

Wainwright allowed an earned run on one hit over three innings while recording five strikeouts in a Grapefruit League win over the Astros on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander is operating with a near-flawless spring ledger thus far, allowing just Sunday's hit and run over five innings while recording six strikeouts overall. Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Wainwright worked up to 44 pitches Sunday, mixing a 90 mph fastball with a curve that consistently sat between 70 mph and 73 mph and commenting after the game that he was particularly pleased with how much life his offerings had.

Wainwright looked sharp while throwing 20 pitches across two scoreless innings during Tuesday's scoreless tie with the Marlins in Grapefruit League action, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran right-hander utilized his trademark curveball with plenty of success during the outing, keeping the pitch below 70 mph while frequently flummoxing Marlins hitters. Wainwright contemplated retirement a couple of offseasons ago, only to churn out 14 wins in 2019. He returned to St. Louis on a one-year deal for 2021 after a rock-solid 2020 campaign that included a 5-3 record, 3.15 ERA and 1.05 WHIP, the latter pair of figures qualifying as his best since 2015.

Wainwright agreed to a contract with the Cardinals on Thursday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wainwright has spent his entire 15-year career in St. Louis and will return on what is believed to be a one-year deal. He is coming off of a strong 2020 campaign, when he maintained a 3.15 ERA across 65.2 frames. Wainwright should be penciled into the back end of the Cardinals' rotation heading into his age-39 season.
