The FF email draft is great. Of course in any long draft there has to be some kind of time limit per pick. Often slow fantasy drafts use 24 hours as a time limit. It would be so great if FF accounted for time limits somehow.
I also think it'd be great if there were a means of making a team pick out of order.
In the NFL draft, a team who goes over the clock limit doesn't forfeit its pick and obviously there's no auto-pick feature there. What they do is just let the team that's next in the order go ahead and try to get their pick in before the clock violator does. If they do, then the next team in the order tries to beat the clock violator to the punch. In other words, the draft continues without the clock-violating team until the clock violator gets around to making its pick, and until it does, it's always first-come-first-served as between the clock violator and the other team on the clock.
That's how we want our long email draft to work. I realize we can sort of manually do this within an email draft but it's complicated. If there were at least just a skip button, and any team skipped could draft a player whenever it got around to it while at the same time the other team currently on the clock could also draft a player, even that would be really excellent.
Other leagues might prefer that teams that exceeded the time limit were forced to auto-pick from the FF draft rankings.
So I envision:
(1) Commissioner ability to specify a per-pick time limit for an email draft,
(2) Commissioner option to select either (a) auto-pick in the event of a clock violation, or (b) utilize out-of-order rules
(3) In the event the out-of-order option is selected, the draft automatically would put the next team on the clock in the event of a clock violation while keeping the clock violator able to make a pick when he/she gets around to it.
I have been begging for this for years. With the ability for the comish to execute the auto pick like it available in the live draft. Using the owner's prerank instead of the comish having to decide what player. With this and the slowdraft clock, it would be so much better.
