Drew Brees threw a pass that was intercepted by K. Moore of the Redskins. Moore returned the ball to the Washington 44, where he was stripped of the ball by Robert Meachem, who then ran for the touchdown.
Per our policy regarding these types of plays, this is an offensive fumble recovery touchdown for Meachem and NOT a defensive fumble recovery touchdown for the Saints. The intent of having a defensive unit on a fantasy team is to own the defensive players of that team; clearly the Saints defensive unit was never on the field at any time during the play.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
**Makes sense and I believe FLEA needs to take away that TD

Officially, the NFL gave Meachem the yardage on the strip but not the points as there was a change of possession 3 times and they are even having a grey area on this.
I think in fairness the play should be dead in fantasy football as there is no real ruling from the NFL, like both teams committing a penalty, take away the play and both sides of this debate would be satisfied!!
Just a side, what should happen when a defense loses points forpoints scored against when the points are off INTs? Defense never came on the field, but points still count.
Yes. As our founder noted in the other thread, we at Flea will be changing the play to an offensive fumble recovery TD, which we've always credited as a rushing TD for fantasy purposes and will be staying consistent.
There's also an issue with the yardage of the score. It's being listed as 0 but it was really 44 yards. Will be changed shortly.
Sorry for any misunderstanding earlier with the play, but it was a fantasy issue vs. an NFL technicality and we're going to side with the fantasy player's point-of-view like we always have.
When a "Defense" recovers a ball and procedes with it, they become the offense on the feild, this makes Meachem a "Defensive"player when this happens. He strips the ball and gets a TD, this is points for the "Team" player on our rosters.
Very true. But for fantasy purposes, most owners intend that the true defense be on the field.
This is why so many people prefer the offensive points allowed to the regular points allowed rule--why penalize the D when its not on the field.
I think you'll find most people agree with our policy here. The small minority that doesn't has something to benefit from interpreting the play as a defensive TD. That's fine too, but they'll have to change their boxscores manually.
I'm in complete agreement. For the time being it seems as though they've taken it away, let's hope it stands. It just makes absolutely no sense to give Meachem's TD to the defense when the offense was on the field, I don't care if they were making a defensive play after a turnover.

Like a lot of stats, you cannot always tell the final awarding of points to a player from the box score from the NFL site.
They did award the TD to a "Fumble Return" ... which is the focus of the fantasy vs NFL discussion.

Yes, you step in the mud when you start down the road of deviating from the actual NFL rules.

Looks like they have taken the points away.

Well, you are Wrong!!! You really should go along with the NFL point of view!! You obviously are not siding with EVERY fantasy player's view!

As per "rules" in the NFL rule book:
When a "Defense" recovers a ball and procedes with it, they become the offense on the feild, this makes Meachem a "Defensive"player when this happens. He strips the ball and gets a TD, this is points for the "Team" player on our rosters.
