Lions and bears game was wild but hears my question. If the qb gets sacked and theirs a penality on the play against the defense does the sack still count? Because I lost my game on the two bum sack plays when cutler went down last night. I need it cleared up, because to me they were sacks the flags then first downs......
If it's a defensive holding play or a play that either forces the play to not count or (usually) is against the team that sacks the opposing team, the sack won't count because there is no play (or enforced against them) ruled on the field. If it's a penalty that is tacked on or extended to the play, the sack counts.
The play you're talking about is a defensive holding play that does not count for a sack. The stats are correct there.

Totally depends on the play.
