Ok, every year we've had a problem with the Live Draft. Our league hosts a draft party and inevitably not everyone makes it. So we end up with a split system wherein lets say 8 individuals are at the party and 4 are drafting online.
Our solution to this was to live draft with a projector at the party in concert with the people online.
The problem(s) have been, the system autodrafted immediately for anyone not signed in (everyone at the party), giving me (the commish) zero time to put their selections in. I corrected this by keeping the draft paused and putting selections in from the chat window.
Which led to problem #2, there's a time limit to how long the draft can be paused, which kicked in around round 9 last year. Once I lost the ability to pause the system started autodrafting and ruined the rest of our draft. I had to redo the draft from round 9 on via email after the fact.
This really ruined our draft day last year. Please tell me some system or feature has been put in place that actually gives the commissioner control of the live draft.
It is the same functionality as last year. Your best bet is to use the slow draft if all 12 owners are somehow represented (in your case, they are) -- where this doesn't work is if an owner is absent and you don't know who to select for that team in the slow draft.
You only have 60 minutes of cumulative pause time for server purposes in the live draft applet and within 5 seconds of a team not in the draft room, the computer will pick for the player -- so you can have a fast trigger finger to pause it as commish, or just pause it and undo the pick if you miss it and don't go over the 60 minutes.
However, since all your owners are there, why not use the slow draft that is explained here: fleaflicker.com -- You can just go to the Players section and the owners can hit Draft at any time and the last player to be picked can be cut by the owner if there is a mistake. You also can commish draft from the Players section too.
If you have questions about the slow draft, want screenshots, or want a test league, we'll be happy to set you up with one.
I asked a question similar to this and was told as 'commish' I could make picks for those who didn't have access to the draft room. Is there a way to turn off the 'auto draft' for players not in the room so I, as commish, can draft for them? This is a make or break option.
You have the ability to make picks for those not in the draft room. Just hit commish draft -- you can try out our mock draft and the same functionality will be there. Just pause it within 5 seconds, and if you don't get there in time, just pause it, hit undo, and it will undo the pick while paused and you can just hit Commish Draft.
Just don't go over the cumulative 60 minute pause time our server needs to run the drafts.
The mock in your league may help or you can try a generic one here: fleaflicker.com
And whats the point of a 60min time limit? If those not in the draft room still had the 90second clock, and didn't have the system autodraft for them would this not fix the above problems?
I was going to ask a similar question. Last year I asked about the functionality of the draft because the commish really doesn't have any power to undo or fix anything while the draft is in motion. Yes, if you're fast enough you can pause and commish pick but only for people not in the draft room. I thought new functionality was going to be added for this year but in reading the above nothing has been changed? It's just difficult, I am in the same boat I run a league but not everyone is physically there and sometimes people don't have laptops to draft either. It'd be nice for the commissioner to be able to make changes for everyone during the draft to help avoid pauses or other problems that come up. Like what about removing season injured or in this case jailed players like Hernandez from the draft order so people don't get them by mistake in autodrafts?
We understand your frustration and mostly all of our development resources are geared towards revamping the draft room out of Java, supporting an auction draft and mobile drafting. We hope to have this done soon as it is very important to us as well. It's a work in progress, but we'll get there in time and it will be worth it. For now, thanks for your patience.
Regarding your last question, they won't get guys like Hernandez or injured players in an autodraft if they use our rankings because we don't have them ranked. We keep them in the system, but they are not ranked to be drafted.
You still have the ability to use our slow draft (which isn't slow, per se, if you do it in one night) which might be your best bet. It's quite fun and unique.
OK, so the slow draft you are refering too is the email draft option? How does that work though for people who just want to auto-draft can the commish make the pics based on what the system would default too? Is it just like the Live Draft but without the countdown?
The issue with the slow/e-mail draft would be that you can't autodraft based on an absence of a manager from the draft. You would actually see your Players list -- if you know a team may be absent, people run this by giving the commish their picks on paper. It is very similar to the live draft but with no clock at all. You can e-mail us at info@fleaflicker.com and we can send you screenshots and set you up with a test league most commissioners find useful (they end up going with it); or they find out it won't work because of absentee owners.
Yea, an example would be great to understand this. I'll send an email. So, the commish does have the ability to pick players for teams, it's just that the system doesn't show who it would pick for you? Like during the live draft it would say your best pick is someone, but your greatest need is someone else. If it showed that, the commish could easily draft that person (like a manual autodraft) for absentee owners.
"Regarding your last question, they won't get guys like Hernandez or injured players in an autodraft if they use our rankings because we don't have them ranked. We keep them in the system, but they are not ranked to be drafted."
I'm showing Aaron Hernandez ranked at 32. Very confusing for players that are drafting without much experience.
@MrElgin,You edited your own draft rankings yourself before Hernandez was moved down in the rankings, so the system is taking your custom rankings and making them your own here -> this always will trump "ours." If you happened to initially rank the players after Hernandez was moved down, he would have moved down too.
To reset this, simply go to Draft->Draft Ranking and select "Redraft" under the blue selector dropdown (or Dynasty or PPR if you have Competitive Edge) and then your "My Rankings" will erase and follow our custom rankings for that tab you choose (we update those rankings multiple times daily). You can always view our rankings and not change them by dropping down and not selecting OK, or you can change them to start fresh and then select OK and make your own changes.
I'm glad I can reset it, but that's not very intuitive. If the player isn't actually a player in the NFL anymore, why would he stay on any list regardless of whether or not the custom rankings have been modified?

Can I set up the draft lobby, project it for everyone to see, and pick their players as the draft goes?

Yes, but if they are not logged in you will have to pause it within 5 seconds.
Your best bet is the email draft -- draft from the players section and project it.
60 minutes of cumulative pause time is because of server restrictions and limitations. We hope to have it eventually removed or added to.
Regarding your last question -- It would solve it, but there's no option for that, sorry.

We received the e-mail and will set you up a test e-mail draft so you can get the hang of it. It doesn't quite work exactly that way, but close.
