We are heading into our second season of a full dynasty league, and since last year was the initial season, I have a bunch of changes to make and I'm not sure the best way to do it without screwing things up. I'm hoping someone can help me.
First, a quick rundown of our league: It is a full dynasty league, so every owner can keep every player on their roster. We have 19 roster spots, plus two IR spots for a total of 21 players per team. I froze the rosters after the season, making anyone not already on a team eligible for our next draft (plus all incoming rookies).
We want to have sort of a "training camp" feel, and we allow the trading of draft picks so what I need to accomplish:
1) Expand the current rosters from the 19 (or 21 if you include IR spots) to 25 total - that way, all teams can roster 25 players until a given point when they will have to make cuts to get back down to 19.
2) Change the draft to be 4 rounds. Because last year we held our initial draft, it is currently set to 19 rounds.
In playing around with the site, some of the options worry me about the way they are worded and I'm afraid of changing something and causing everyone to be dumped into the free agent pool or something stupid like that. Can anyone help me?
Regarding the IR, those spots don't factor in to the draft. If you have a roster size of 19 and 19 keepers, and every team has 2 players on the IR, those players are going to go back to the player pool at the start of the draft as they can't be designated keepers. The only way for people to keep them would be to bump your roster requirements (non IR) to 21 and then bump up the keeper size to 21.
It sounds like you probably want to do that. If you want to bump up temporarily to 25 and have a 4 round draft, here's what needs to happen:
1) Increase your roster requirements (non IR) to 25 via League Settings > Edit Roster Requirements
2) Increase your keepers to 25 via League Settings > Edit Keeper Rules
3) Every team needs to set their keepers
(You can do this for every team at once by going to League Settings > Edit Rosters and then choose "These are the keepers only (for all teams)" in the bottom Keeper Options section and click Save)
After you do this, if your draft board has some owners with 4 picks and some with 6 picks, this is because of keeper settings. The owner with 4 picks will have 21 keepers set, and the owner with 6 picks will only have 19 set. If you want a strict 4-round draft, you will need to have everyone at precisely 21 keepers. Make sense?
After your draft, you can let folks know when the deadline is for cuts, and once all cuts are made, you can lower your keeper size and roster size back down.
Please email us if you have additional questions we can help with. Best of luck with your draft!
