Jonathan Bernier will undergo sports hernia surgery on Wednesday.

He sat out five games in March due to the injury before finishing the season on the sidelines with what was initially reported as an MCL strain. He apparently aggravated the injury on Apr. 3 against Boston. "I felt pretty good," he said. "It was sore but my range, my stretching was fine. I think a lot of players play through that." He should be ready for training camp next season.

Jonathan Bernier's lower body injury is a MCL strain.

Bernier is out for three weeks, which means that the only way he returns before 2014-15 is if the Toronto Maple Leafs make the playoffs. The odds of that happening are remote. He has a 2.69 GAA and .923 save percentage in 54 games in 2013-14.

Jonathan Bernier will have an MRI on his lower-body injury Friday morning.

He was forced to leave Thursday's game against Boston with 11:38 seconds remaining in regulation. Bernier was hurt after Toronto defenseman Paul Ranger pushed Patrice Bergeron on top of him. His status should become clearer at some point in the afternoon, but for now consider him day-to-day.

Jonathan Bernier was forced to leave the Maple Leafs' 4-3 overtime win because of a leg injury.

Toronto defenseman Paul Ranger checked Bruins center Patrice Bergeron into Bernier and onto the Leafs netminder. Bernier needed to be helped off the ice and was unable to put pressure on his left leg. He made 25 saves in 48:22. The netminder has a 2.69 goals-against average and .923 save percentage on the season.

Jonathan Bernier made 22 saves in helping the Leafs snap an eight game losing streak while Toronto defeated Calgary 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Bernier has had a tough go since the middle of March, suffering a groin injury in the midst of a three game winning streak, then returning to lose his next three starts and allowing four goals in each of them. Bernier improves to 26-19-7 with a .923 save percentage and 2.69 goals against average.

Jonathan Bernier will be the Toronto Maple Leafs starter on Tuesday.

Bernier has allowed four goals in each of his last three starts. That's pretty bad, but it's also unsurprising given the team's recent play.

Jonathan Bernier kicked aside 24 shots in Toronto's 4-2 setback to the Red Wings on Saturday night.

When will it end? The Leafs, once easily in a playoff position, have now lost eight games in a row and find themselves on the outside looking in. Without a strong defense, their netminders need to steal games. The problem is, neither Bernier nor James Reimer have been able to do that lately. Bernier has given up four goals in three straight games. He has a 2.70 goals-against average and .923 save percentage.

Jonathan Bernier will be between the pipes for the Leafs on Saturday night.

He was in goal for Friday's 4-2 loss to Philadelphia, so his appearance against Detroit will mark the first time in his NHL career that he's played in back-to-back games in different cities.

Jonathan Bernier believes he is healthy enough to play in back-to-back games.

If that is true, he will be in goal Saturday night against Detroit after facing the Flyers Friday night. We believe the Maple Leafs really have no choice but to start Bernier as their playoff hopes are flickering. James Reimer has been awful this month.
