Bernier (hip) announced Monday that he has retired from the NHL after 14 seasons.

According to NHL.com, this is the 13th time that Bernier has coughed up six goals or more in an NHL contest. Of course, MacKenzie Blackwood replaced Bernier against the Jets on Friday, and even he had rough go at it with a pair of goals slipping past him on eight shots. The Devils are off until Monday's home clash with the Senators, which gives coach Lindy Ruff ample time to determine who will post up between the pipes in that one.

Bernier will be stationed between the pipes for Friday's tilt in Winnipeg.

Mackenzie Blackwood coughed up five goals in Thursday's loss to Minnesota, so the Devils will turn to Bernier on the second night of the back-to-back. The veteran netminder is 4-3-1 with a 2.55 GAA and a .914 save percentage through nine appearances this season. He's looking for his first win since Nov. 6.
