Laich announced on social media Friday that he is retiring from professional hockey.
EDGE Analysis
Considering Laich hasn't played since he was waived by the Kings back in November of 2017, his announcement shouldn't come as a surprise. Over the course of his 13-year NHL career, the veteran center logged 776 games for Ottawa, Washington, Toronto and Los Angeles in which he tallied 134 goals, 198 assists and 1469 shots while averaging 15:24 of ice time. Laich added another 32 points in 65 playoff contests but failed to ever lift Lord Stanley's cup.

Laich was placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran had already been waived and assigned to AHL Ontario, so it appears as though Laich either doesn't want to report to the minors and would like to try to catch on with another organization or he may have decided to hang up his skates for good. Laich spent 12 games with the Kings this season -- his first NHL stint since 2015-16 -- and recorded just one assist.

Laich was waived by the Kings on Friday, Elliotte Friedman of CBC reports.
EDGE Analysis
Laich only managed one point and 10 shots through 12 games, and he had already been out of the lineup for a few tilts when this news arrived. The veteran signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Kings before the season, so nobody should be surprised here.

Laich agreed to terms on a contract with Los Angeles on Thursday, Jon Rosen of Fox Sports West reports.
EDGE Analysis
Laich was with the Kings on a professional tryout during training camp and stayed around the team in hopes of securing a permanent deal. It took an injury to Jeff Carter (leg) for Los Angeles to make an offer to the center, who will mostly provide veteran depth, but could suit up on occasion.

Laich had his PTO deal with Los Angeles expire Sunday, but will continue to practice with the team, LA Kings Insider Jon Rosen reports.
EDGE Analysis
The former longtime Washington Capital didn't appear in the NHL last season, and if he's to do so in 2017-18, it's unlikely to be with the Kings. Laich is a three-time 20-goal scorer but hasn't skated well in recent seasons, which is likely what's kept him out of the NHL.

Laich will join Los Angeles for training camp on a professional tryout agreement.
EDGE Analysis
A long-term deal for Laich is by no means a guarantee considering the Kings' depth down the middle -- including Andrei Loktionov who will also be in camp on a tryout. The 34-year-old Laich has appeared in just 81 games over the past two seasons -- tallying 14 points over that stretch -- so you probably shouldn't be relying on him for fantasy value -- if he signs a permanent contract.

Laich (elbow) was on the ice for an informal workout with the Kings on Wednesday, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports, adding that the veteran is expected to garner a professional tryout agreement with the team.
EDGE Analysis
Laich expressed his frustrations with the Maple Leafs, the last NHL team he played for before going under the knife this past April. Still, even if the Kings issue him a PTO, it wouldn't be wise to put much stock in a guy who has played just 207 games since the 2012 season. He does wear the leadership hat quite well, but that only goes so far in the fantasy realm.

Laich underwent elbow surgery and is rehabbing neither with the Maple Leafs nor the minor-league affiliate Marlies, John Matisz of the Toronto Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
Past reports indicated that the veteran center did not enjoy his experience with the Maple Leafs, where he was supposed to mentor a crop of phenoms, including fellow pivot Auston Matthews, who went first overall in the 2016 draft. Consequently, Laich was placed on waivers and ended up appearing in 27 minor-league games -- he produced one goal and eight helpers over that span. Judging on his apparent distaste for the Buds and the team doing just fine without him, expect Laich to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Laich has been placed on waivers after he told TheAthletic.com this weekend that he either wanted to play for the Leafs or be moved to another NHL team.
EDGE Analysis
Laich's agent Roly Thompson doesn't think it's punishment for speaking out, but acknowledges that his client will likely pass through waivers because of his $4.5 million contract. Thompson said Laich's season with the team has been "horrible." Laich was brought in to help provide leadership for the young players on the team, but he became expendable when they matured quickly. Laich will continue to play with the AHL Marlies after he clears waivers Wednesday and will not break contract.

Laich was demoted to AHL Toronto on Tuesday, James Mirtle of The Globe and Mail reports.
EDGE Analysis
Laich was a candidate to stay with the team as a veteran mentor but the team will instead elect to save the cap space by sending him to the minors. The 33-year-old appears to be moving towards the end of his career but could still find his way back to the NHL if Toronto goes through anything similar to the onslaught of injuries that had in 2015-16.
