The Cats are on fire right now having rattled off five straight wins, and the fact they've done it without Kindl in the lineup doesn't bode well for his chances to return anytime soon. With four points and a minus-12 rating across 28 games this season, Kindl's presence in the lineup likely wouldn't impact many fantasy owners, anyway.

Kindl has just two points, 23 shots on goal and a minus-nine rating in 21 games this season.

EDGE Analysis

The Czech rearguard hasn't done much since being recalled from AHL Springfield on Nov. 18, except for a modest 33 hits and 22 blocked shots. It shouldn't come as a surprise since Kindl had just two points in 19 games last year with the Cats, but you'd think that he'd be able to get in on the scoring a bit more often given his 14:49 of average ice time.

Kindl was called up Friday from the minors.

Kindl was traded to the Panthers on Saturday for a sixth-round draft pick in 2017. According to Ansar Khan of MLive.com, the Red Wings will retain 15-percent of the defenseman's salary.

EDGE Analysis

Red Wings general manager Ken Holland tried to dump Kindl and his $2.4 million annual cap hit via the waiver process on two separate occasions this season but was unsuccessful. Going the trade route might not have been the ideal scenario for the Wings given the 15-percent salary retainer, but sending Kindl to Florida still clears some cap space for the club ahead of the Feb. 29 trade deadline. The Panthers need to upgrade their power play, which is ranked 27th in the league, and Kindl has experience in that area, having averaged more than a minute on the power play in his last four seasons.

Kindl will return to AHL Grand Rapids after clearing waivers on Wednesday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

Kindl was waived to make room for Niklas Kronwell who was activated off of injured reserve. The 29-year-old started the season as a regular contributor for the Red Wings, but has gotten on the ice in just eight contests since mid-November.
