Ruutu (undisclosed) will sit out Sunday's game against the Rangers, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ruutu didn't practice Saturday, so his absence Sunday shouldn't be too surprising. The veteran winger has not collected a point through the first three games this season, and that won't change Sunday because of his absence. Travis Zajac will return Sunday, drawing into the lineup in his place.

Ruutu did not participate in Saturday's practice, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
EDGE Analysis
It isn't clear if the absence was related to an injury, but either way, Ruutu's status for Sunday's tilt against the Rangers is now up in the air. Ruutu has failed to register a single point in the three games he's suited up for thus far this season.

Ruutu will draw into the lineup Tuesday night against the Predators, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ruutu will replace Sergey Kalinin, who has struggled on both ends of the ice to start the season. Ruutu is a Finn with 11 years of experience, but he's only managed 46 total points over the past three seasons between Carolina and New Jersey.

Ruutu assisted on Peter Harrold's third-period goal in Friday's loss to the Blue Jackets. Ruutu has been a lineup regular since returning from injured reserve in late January, but hasn't provided much production while serving primarily as a bottom-six forward. A stark decline in ice time and a depreciation of skill since his prime years with the Hurricanes in the late aughts seems to have been the primary downfall for Ruutu, who has only 12 points in 61 games. The end could be near for the 32-year-old.

Ruutu (illness) has been activated from IR by New Jersey, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. Ruutu is evidently healthy enough to play Wednesday against the Leafs, but with just eight points and 20 PIM in 43 games to date, he's only an option in deeper formats.

Ruutu (illness) was on the ice for Wednesday's morning skate, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports. It looks like the All-Star break provided sufficient time for Ruutu to recover from the flu, but it's uncertain if he'll return to the lineup for Wednesday's tilt with the Maple Leafs, the Devils' first game of the second half. He remains listed on injured reserve for the squad, so he'll be questionable to play until he's formally activated.

Ruutu (illness) will resume practicing with the Devils on Monday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. Ruutu was placed on injured reserve after a case of the flu resulted in the team ruling the forward out for the entirety of its three-game road trip prior to the All-Star break. It looks like Ruutu has since regained his stamina after skating on his own back in New Jersey for the full week, so look for the Devils to activate him for their first game out of the break Wednesday against the Leafs. His return to the lineup should be confirmed following his full participation in Monday's practice.

Ruutu (illness) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday. Ruutu isn't expected to return until after the All-Star break, so the Devils' decision to move him to IR isn't a surprising one. Eric Gelinas was activated in a corresponding move.

General manager Lou Lamoriello said Ruutu (illness) is "very doubtful" to join the Devils for the remaining three games on their road trip, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports. Both Ruutu and Jaromir Jagr continue to deal with significant cases of the flu and haven't been progressing as quickly as expected. With the Devils activating Eric Gelinas (illness) in advance of Wednesday's game, either Ruutu or Jagr will be moved to IR to clear a roster spot. After the Devils' road trip concludes, the NHL will break for the All-Star Game, meaning we likely won't see Ruutu back in action until Jan. 28 against the Maple Leafs.

Ruutu (illness) will not travel with the team to Los Angeles for Wednesday's game against the Kings, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. Ruutu has not officially been ruled out for Wednesday's game, but with him staying in New Jersey while the rest of his teammates head west, he almost certainly will not play against the Kings. The Devils will play their next three games on the road, and Ruutu could join the team at some point if he starts feeling better over the next few days.
