Wingels announced his retirement following his second season with Geneve-Servette HC.

Wingels was drafted in the sixth round of the 2008 NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks and went on to play 337 games for the club over seven seasons. The winger's NHL career also included stops in Ottawa, Chicago and Boston, where he racked up 62 goals, 81 helpers and 740 shots along the way. The Illinois native also added another eight points in 58 postseason contests but was never able to lift Lord Stanley's cup.

Wingels inked a one-year deal with Geneve-Servette (NLA) on Wednesday.

A season ago, Wingels spent time with both the Blackhawks and Bruins. In 75 games, he managed 17 points and also appeared in four of Boston's playoff games -- going pointless. Wingels, 30, has never appeared comfortable since being traded by the Sharks and unless he's able to put together a special season abroad, the chances of him returning to the NHL are slim at best.

While skating on the Bruins' fourth line, Wingels' fantasy upside is limited, with the 30-year-old winger coming off a regular season in which he tallied nine goals and 17 points in 75 games (57 with Chicago and 18 with Boston).

Considering Wingels' playing time is limited with Boston -- just 11:54 per game -- and he doesn't see time on the power play, expectations for production should be limited as the season rounds out.
