Tom Poti has officially announced his retirement. His 14-year career ended with plenty of injury woes. Poti wasn't signed as a free agent for the 2013-14 campaign after he appeared in 16 games with the Capitals during the lockout-shortened season. In 824 contests, he produced 69 goals and 258 assists.

Tom Poti won't be back with the Washington Capitals next season, but he wants to continue playing in the NHL. The pending unrestricted free agent said, "It's time to move on." Poti has struggled with injury for the past couple of seasons, appearing in just 37 games over that time. It may be tough for him to find interested suitors at the age of 36.

Tom Poti has been selected as the Washington Capitals' Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy nominee. Poti was finally able to return to the NHL after missinf two seasons with groin problems and a fractured pelvis. "I still wanted to play," Poti said. "I still had the passion inside me. Hockey's still fun for me to this day and I wanted to do everything I could to get back." Unfortunately he's sidelined again, this time with a back injury. He has two assists and 16 games this season.

Tom Poti (back) is hoping to return to action soon. He said he is feeling much better but as Katie Carrera of the Washington Post points out, he may not draw back into the lineup even when he gets back to full health because the team has been playing so well of late. Poti has missed the last 12 games with a back injury.

Tom Poti (upper body) was on the ice Wednesday. Poti didn't play on Tuesday because he tweaked something. "Feeling OK," Poti said. "A little stiff, a little sore. But it felt better today. That's why I went on the ice and tested it out." He's not sure if he'll be healthy enough to play on Thursday.

Tom Poti has an upper-body injury and is considered day-to-day. Poti missed Tuesday's morning skate, but it's unclear when he suffered the injury. More than likely, Poti was hurt during Sunday's game against the Rangers. At this point of his career, Poti is basically an extra defenseman and was only playing because of an injury to John Erskine. He has no fantasy value.

Tom Poti will suit up for Washington against the Rangers Sunday if John Erskine is deemed unfit for duty. Erskine suffered an upper body injury Saturday in the first period against the Islanders. The Washington Post's Katie Carrera says it appeared to be to his "left hand or wrist." The rearguard played only two shifts, for a total of 1:18. Caps coach Adam Oates says Erskine is day-to-day.
