DAILY PRIME- JANUARY 12, 2015: MONDAY GAME BITS primepucks.com Mon 1/12/15 7:27 AM

On the night when the Anaheim Ducks raised the great Teemu Selanne's number to the rafters, it was Rickard Rakell who came out of nowhere to post four points in their 5-4 shootout win over Winnipeg. Despite the huge performance, there is little fantasy upside to the talented youngster who has yet to crack the top-six during his brief NHL stint. He was drafted 30th overall in 2011, so maybe he can still realize some of that untepped offensive upside. He's just not there yet.. Tobias Enstrom has picked up two assists since his return from injury. Scoop him up if you need defensive help. He should be a serviceable option at the very least. I might even start him in one of my leagues over the struggling Ryan Suter this week. Need to mull this one over.. Edmonton had a chance to establish some real "mojo" and threw up another stinker in the 4-2 loss to Florida. With every passing day, Roberto Luongo is becoming a legit no. 1 fantasy goalie again.. With eight points in the last seven games, Chicago's Brad Richards has heated up and could be a decent short-term no.5-6 starting option in most formats... Zach Parise played a strong game last night, registering 6 SOG but was held off the scoreboard for the second straight game since returning to the Minnesota Wild line-up.

NHL IN 30: ANAHEIM DUCKS 2014-2015 primepucks.com Sat 10/4/14 12:13 PM

After being knocked out of the second round of the playoffs by the Los Angeles Kings in seven games, the Anaheim Ducks wasted another stellar regular season showing as the Western Conference point leader. However, Coach Bruce Boudreau and company were quick to act during the offseason, trading for former Vancouver center Ryan Kesler in exchange for Nick Bonino and Luca Sbisa. Veterans Teemu Selanne's and Saku Koivu have retired, but the signing of extensions for young forwards Jakub Silfverberg and Patrick Maroon assures the club of much needed forward depth. They also took a chance on former prolific scoring winger Dany Heatley, signing him to a one year deal. Goalie Jonas Hiller was allowed to bolt via free agency, handing over the reins to the promising tandem of Frederik Andersen and John Gibson. All in all, this team has elite fantasy stars up front while plenty of emerging value on defense. GOALIES The Ducks appear to be in good hands in the crease with 2nd-year goalies Andersen and Gibson but fantasy owners won't have it as easy. After a standout regular rookie season where he posted a 20-5 record with a 2.29 GAA and .923 SP, he is technically penciled in as the starter. However, American standout Gibson has been developing quicker than expected and can steal the starting job just like he did in the playoffs. He has won at every level so expect him to make a huge NHL splash soon. With Jason LaBarbera also on roster, it's entirely possible that Gibson starts the year in the AHL to get more seasoning. Any way you look at it, the goaltending situation in Anaheim is very fluid so you should grab both goalies if you are interested. DEFENSE Cam Fowler is clearly the Ducks best fantasy option on the blue line, given that he is firmly entrenched on the top pairing and as quarterback on the primary power play unit. He burst on the scene with 40 points as a rookie, but his game had taken a step back the next two seasons. However, he rediscovered his game last season with 36 points in 70 games while becoming a more complete two-way defender. He is currently day to day with an undisclosed injury but should be ready to go by the opener. View Fowler as a solid 2-3 fantasy defenseman. The other guy to watch is Sami Vatanen, who has the high upside to dominate in the NHL. The defensive game is not there yet, but he should flourish soon with more power play time. 30-35 points should be in the cards for the talented Finn. Young Hampus Lindholm is developing into...

Injury: Teemu Selanne also appears to be in. dailyfaceoff.com Fri 4/25/14 7:56 PM

Selanne will also draw back into the lineup after taking a breather in Game 4.

Injury: Teemu Selanne confirmed that he will sit out Game 4 for Ducks. dailyfaceoff.com Wed 4/23/14 2:56 PM

Selanne had previously been relegated to fourth line duty but the scratching is a bit of a surprise. Look for him to be back in for Game 5.

Line Change: Selanne (rest) will not play Saturday. dailyfaceoff.com Sat 3/29/14 7:56 PM

As he has done all season, Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau will scratch Selanne in tonight's second game of a back-to-back set. The Ducks have a quick turnaround and will play again on Monday, so three games in four days, definitely warrants some rest for the veteran winger.

Selanne has not scored in his last 14 games. In that span, Selanne has just three assists. Since trading Dustin Penner, Kyle Palmieri and Patrick Maroon have played on this line, tonight they will give the 43-year-old a shot with Getz and Perry.

DAILY PRIME - FEBRUARY 17, 2014: STEVE'S OLYMPIC THOUGHTS WITH A FA... primepucks.com Mon 2/17/14 3:13 PM

Obviously, the top injury news during the first round of Olympic hockey that has many fantasy owners deflated is Sweden's Henrik Zetterberg missing the remainder of the games due to a herniated disc in his back. According to Swedish team doctor, Bjorn Waldenback, there are fears that he might be gone for the rest of the season. Zetterberg has been the main source of offensive production and a solid fantasy forward for the Red Wings, so his absence would adversely affect the fantasy values of all key Detroit players moving forward. Rookie Finnish sensation Aleksander Barkov is also out for the remainder of the Olympics and quite possibly the season after suffering a knee injury in the game against Norway. His 24 points in 54 games aren't staggering totals, but he been coming on of late and was getting a huge confidence boost by playing on Finland's top line along with Teemu Selanne and Mikael Granlund. Don't forget Barkov in your drafts next season, as he makes for a great late-round sleeper. I would be a little concerned if I was counting on Jaroslav Halak as my top fantasy goalie down the stretch, considering how he has been lit up in two games starting for Team Slovakia. I understand being ransacked by a juggernaut USA team, but being beat twice by Slovenian forwards not named Anze Kopitar? Inexcusable. It might be time to sound the fantasy alarm. Two players that could wake up after the NHL season resumes are Daniel Sedin and Drew Doughty. I would consider buying low on both, as they have been having much better Olympic tournaments than NHL seasons so far. Sedin has only 2 points in the last 15 games for Vancouver, but he has dished out three assists for Team Sweden. With brother Henrik also returning, it would be hard to imagine that Daniel doesn't turn it around during the last 20 games. As for Drew, he has scored 4 goals for Team Canada which should spark him as he helps lead the Kings to another long playoff run. Doughty epitomizes the pure definition of "clutch", so his numbers drastically improve when the games matter the most.

Line Change: Ducks winger Teemu Selanne will not play against the N... dailyfaceoff.com Sat 2/8/14 2:56 PM

Selanne did not accompany the team to Nashville on Friday as the club and he agreed earlier this week on him skipping the contest before he heads to Sochi to play for Finland. Selanne has been given a lot of rest this season so it is not surprising to see him get rest right before the Olympics.

Line Change: Selanne will be a healthy scratch tonight, but will be... dailyfaceoff.com Sat 1/11/14 2:56 PM

The Ducks continue to scratch Selanne during back-to-back's, this time around they will give him the extra day off and save him for the tail-end. After Sunday, the Ducks are off until Thursday, so this is likely the best idea to keep Selanne fresh. Jakob Silfverberg will enter the lineup.
