Ott (groin) practiced with the team Monday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports. Ott was originally not supposed to travel with the team on their current four game road trip, but considering he's already practicing, it sounds like he could make a return sooner. There's no word yet from the team, but keep an eye out for a status update.

Ott suffered a groin injury during Friday's game and will not travel on the Blues' upcoming road trip, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The Blues play four games on the road over the next week, and with Ott staying in St. Louis, it appears he will be out at least that long.

Ott picked up an assist Saturday against Chicago, his first point of the season. He had two hits and two PIM in the contest. Ott has been bouncing around the top three lines for the Blues, but he is a checker at this stage of his career. He has three shots in seven games so far.

Ott appears set to assume the top-line spot made available by Paul Stastny's upper-body injury, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. It was believed that Alexander Steen would reunite with former linemates David Backes and T.J. Oshie in the wake of Stastny's injury, but coach Ken Hitchcock has surprisingly decided to give Ott the first look. Ott offers a similar hard-nosed ruggedness to Backes on the defensive end, but doesn't provide the same sort of offensive impact that Steen would. Still, a potential multi-game stay with Oshie and Backes will afford him more scoring opportunities than he would receive in his typical bottom-six role.

Steve Ott said he was committed to re-signing with St. Louis. "I wanted to go to St. Louis," Ott said. "That was my No. 1 spot. I told my agent, 'Listen, let's make this work any which way we can.' My heart was already locked up with St. Louis. I'm happy that my family and myself, we're where we wanted to be. That was my No. 1 thing, to be a Blue again." Ott joined the Blues as part of the Ryan Miller trade. He had three assists and 37 penalty minutes in 23 games with them last season.

Steve Ott has agreed to a two-year, $5.2 million contract extension with the St. Louis Blues. The Blues acquired Ott from the Buffalo Sabres as part of the Ryan Miller trade. He's known primarily for his gritty play, but he does chip in offensively. He had 23 points and 92 penalty minutes in 82 games in 2013-14.

It was speculated prior to the start of free agency that Steve Ott might circle back to the Buffalo Sabres, but that appears to be far less likely now. The Sabres have been busy during the free agent period thus far, while adding Brian Gionta, Matt Moulson, Josh Gorges and Andrej Meszaros. "I don't know if he's a possibility," said GM Tim Murray. "I certainly reflected on what we did and was very happy with what we did." Ott is still out there as an unrestricted free agent.

The St. Louis Blues would like to re-sign Steve Ott, but the negotiations have "gone quiet," according to GM Doug Armstrong. That meshes with a recent report from Craig Custance. The Blues acquired Ott from the Buffalo Sabres as part of the Ryan Miller deal. "He's a really good sort of jack of all trades," Armstrong said. "He can go up and down in your lineup. Obviously I don't think there's any more expanded growth in Steve Ott's game - he is what he is. We want to do fair contracts, but we don't want to be anybody's retirement package."

There's nothing new to report on contract talks between Steve Ott and the St. Louis Blues. It looks like he'll be available as an unrestricted free agent in July and Craig Custance of ESPN believes Ott could end up back with the Buffalo Sabres. Ott was the captain of the team before he was traded to the Blues as part of the Ryan Miller deal.
