Stephane Robidas netted a goal for Dallas, but it fell 2-1 in the shootout Saturday night. Robidas has had a few seasons here and there where he's been relevant in fantasy leagues, but the 36-year-old isn't worth a look this year. He has just one goal and an assist on the season. Lane MacDermid and Vernon Fiddler chipped in with the assists.

Stephane Robidas is Dallas' only right-handed defenseman on their NHL roster. Trevor Daley and Sergei Gonchar have often played on the right side, but being an actual right-handed shot may help Robidas remain in the team's top-four defense group this campaign. It's also a good sign for him that new coach Lindy Ruff made him the second most used defenseman on Team Canada, behind only Dan Hamhuis, at the World Championships. Robidas may get a lighter load this year in Dallas with the arrival of Gonchar. It's also possible he could be traded at some point, but until that day comes he'll be an important veteran on the team.

Stephane Robidas registered two assists in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime win. Robidas has nine assists in 20 games this season. He puts up decent offensive numbers, but his real value comes in leagues that use hits and blocked shots as categories.

Stephane Robidas didn't do as well as he would have liked in his stint with HIFK Helsinki of the Finnish league. Robidas had two goals and five points in 15 SM-liiga games. "The Finnish League is very good, and the challenges are really tough," Robidas said. "The rinks are all different sizes, so sometimes you get a big European rink and sometimes you get a rink that's closer to the NHL. You have to adjust game to game. It's an intense league, so they play very hard." Robidas thinks he put too much pressure on himself, but on a positive note, his hip and shoulder felt good. He's had hip and shoulder problems in the past.

Stephane Robidas opened the scoring in Tuesday's 3-1 win for HIFK over JYP Jyvaskyla. The marker was his first since joining the Finnish Elite League and it gives him three points in seven games this campaign. Edmonton Oilers forward Lennart Petrell also scored in the contest for IFK Helsinki, giving him eight goals in 12 SM-liiga appearances.

Stephane Robidas will play for at least a month in the Finnish Elite League for not much money. His contract can be extended if the lockout drags along and he can leave if a CBA is reached before it expires. "It's not for money, it's not because I want to get out of town or anything," said Robidas. "My kids are in school and I don't want to leave them here. But I have to play. I just feel like I need to get out there and skate and make sure I can be the best player I can be." His SM-liiga club, IFK Helsinki, agreed to pay his insurance costs. He will probably make his debut this weekend.

Stephane Robidas will play for IFK Helsinki during the lockout. Robidas will be an important part of the Dallas defense when the NHL resumes action as he is the Stars veteran defenseman and they are expected to go with a youth movement on the blueline. In the meantime, he will stay in shape playing in the Finnish Elite League.

The Dallas Stars will likely count on Stephane Robidas to continue his leadership role with the team next year. The Stars have several defensemen in the pipeline who may be ready for full-time NHL action, including Philip Larsen, Brenden Dillon, Jamie Oleksiak and Patrik Nemeth, and Robidas will probably be used to help them show them the ropes. He has served as the team's top defender for a number of years and has logged big minutes for the team in all situations. Unfortunately, he is more of a great complimentary defender than a true number one, so the Stars will have to address their blueline before too long in an attempt to get deeper.
