Gonchar has been bothered by some muscle soreness and his status for the Stars' game on Thursday against Nashville is in question, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports. Gonchar made his season debut on Tuesday in a 3-1 loss to the Kings, where he managed just one shot on goal. The 40-year-old defenseman had missed all of the Stars' previous games this season due to an ankle injury he suffered in the preseason. Gonchar's offensive production has been down the past few season but he can still provide a small boost due to his ability to rack up assists, accumulating at least 20 assists the past five seasons.

Gonchar will suit up for the first time on Tuesday as the Stars take on the Kings, according to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News. The Stars tried to trade Gonchar in the offseason, but that was a different time for the defense-starved team. His fantasy value may be limited though. Gonchar's offensive production is on the decline and the team protected his minutes quite a bit last season. Nonetheless, Gonchar will get some solid minutes as a welcome addition to a Stars roster that can't seem to stop the parade of pucks from going in their own net.

Gonchar (ankle) is questionable for Tuesday's game against the Kings, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports. Gonchar is apparently healthy enough to play, but may need to work on his conditioning before returning to the lineup. If he can't suit up Tuesday, he should be back in the lineup Thursday against the Predators.

Gonchar has been ruled out for three-to-five weeks with an ankle injury, NHL.com's Mark Stepneski reports. The multi-week injury likely ensures that Gonchar will open the season on injured reserve, and surely was a motivating factor in the Stars getting a deal done with restricted free agent Brenden Dillon. Now 40 years old and a full four years removed from his last 50-point campaign, Gonchar shouldn't be on anyone's radar outside of very deep leagues.

Coach Lindy Ruff acknowledged Gonchar (ankle) could be out for "a period of time," Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports. Though the Stars are still a full week away from their regular-season opener against the Blackhawks, Ruff's ominous words suggest Gonchar's status is in serious question for that contest, and possibly beyond. More information regarding his condition should be available in the coming days, but it might be prudent to move him down a few pegs on your draft board, in the event the injury proves to be more serious. Gonchar's fantasy appeal was already on the downturn before he suffered the ailment, as he tallied only two goals and 20 assists in his first season in Big D, with his 22 points representing his lowest output for a full campaign since 1997-98.
