Hannan announced his retirement on Wednesday, Curtis Pashelka of the Bay Area News Group reports.
EDGE Analysis
The longtime Sharks defenseman hasn't played this season, but logged more than 1,000 games over his career, amassing 625 penalty minutes and scoring 38 goals.

GM Doug Wilson announced Friday that the Sharks will not re-sign Hannan. The 36-year-old defenseman posted two goals and five assists through 58 games this season. With the development of young players like Mirco Mueller and Hannan's declining play, there's little reason for San Jose to bring Hannan back.

Hannan (face) will not play in Saturday's season finale against the Kings, CSN Bay Area's Kevin Kurz reports. The blueliner had hoped to get in one more game with the Sharks after practicing in recent days, but he wasn't able to receive clearance to reenter the lineup. The 36-year-old will become a free agent this offseason and may find difficulty landing more than a cheap, one-year contract with another NHL squad.

Hannan (face) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Oilers, CSN Bay Area's Kevin Kurz reports. Hannan resumed practicing late last week, but he's not progressed enough to the point of playing quite yet. While he'll sit for a fourth straight game Thursday, coach Todd McLellan isn't ruling out the possibility of Hannan playing in Saturday's season finale against the Kings. If Hannan ends up suiting up, it could be the final game of his career, as he's 36 years old and unlikely to gin up much interest on the free-agent market.

Hannan (face) won't play Monday against the Stars, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports. Hannan -- who has seven points in 58 games to date -- slots into the day-to-day category as Thursday's game against the Oilers approaches.

Hannan (face) is out of the lineup Friday against the Coyotes, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports. Hannan did skate Friday morning while wearing a cage to protect his swollen face, but coach Todd McLellan wasn't willing to bring the ailing defenseman back into the lineup. As a result, Karl Stollery, who was recalled from AHL Worcester on Thursday, will make his Sharks debut after he was acquired from the Avalanche at the trade deadline.

Hannan (face) is participating in Friday's optional skate with a cage over his face, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports. This bodes well for Hannan's odds of playing in Friday's game against the Coyotes, but it's probably still best to consider him questionable. He took a puck to the face during Wednesday's win over the Avalanche.

Hannan is nursing a facial injury and is questionable to play Friday against the Coyotes, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports. Hannan was removed from Wednesday's win over the Avalanche in the third period after taking a puck to the face on a clearing attempt by teammate Brent Burns. It put a sour finish on what had been a good night up to that point for Hannan, who netted his second goal of the season in the second period. Hannan was absent from Thursday's practice while he continued to experience swelling, putting his status in peril for the weekend. Coach Todd McLellan said the Sharks would likely recall a blueliner from AHL Worcester if Hannan is forced to miss time.

Hannan should not be on your fantasy radar. He's played just four games in March and has just two points in his last 13 games. Hannan has never been a top tier defensive option in fantasy, but he may be in decline from what he once was. In addition, he's getting scratched in favor of younger players with the Sharks focused on the future, which lowers his value even further. The 36-year-old defender is posting some rough numbers and there's little reason to believe that things are going to improve this year.

Hannan did not skate in practice Sunday, Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area reports. It's unclear when exactly Hannan's injury occurred, assuming that is the case, but he reportedly still could play tomorrow. Over 38 games this season, the blueliner has recorded just one point.
