Rissanen signed a two-year contract with Jokerit Helsinki of the KHL on Monday.

The 2009 sixth-round pick spent all of 2015-16 in the AHL with Charlotte, accumulating 13 points over 54 games. He will now return to his native Finland on a two-year deal to play in the KHL. Rissanen will miss 3-4 weeks with an MCL injury. Based on that timetable, there's a solid chance that Rissanen, who has yet to record a point in six games with Carolina this season, could be done for the season.

Rissanen was forced out of Sunday's game against the Blue Jackets with a lower-body injury. Rissanen, who entered Sunday's game with zero points in five games with the big club to date, saw 4:56 worth of ice time prior to his exit from Sunday's contest.

The Hurricanes recalled Rissanen from AHL Charlotte on Monday, the team's official site reports. Rissanen, who has notched 11 points in 52 games for Charlotte this season, joins the big club's blue line mix, with Andrej Sekera and Tim Gleason having been dealt by the team in advance of Monday's NHL trade deadline.
