Pavel Kubina (upper body) skate prior to Philadelphia's practice session on Wednesday. He is still being listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury, so his status for Thursday's match against the New York Islanders should be considered doubtful at this time. Kubina has missed the Flyers' last four games as a result of the ailment.

Pavel Kubina didn't play on Thursday due to an undisclosed injury. You know things are bad when even the reinforcements are ailing. The Flyers acquired Kubina to bolster their defense with Chris Pronger out for the remainder of the season. In addition to Kubina and Pronger, blueliners Kimmo Timonen and Andrej Meszaros missed Thursday's contest.

Pavel Kubina saw just 45 seconds of power-play time in his Philadelphia debut on Tuesday night, but he is expected to get more minutes as he learns the team's system. "Whatever they need from me, I'll be there," Kubina said. "I'm still learning. The coaches will work with me and show me clips. They were really smart with me, I hadn't skated in over a week." The veteran defenseman is the Flyers' first right-handed rearguard since Eric Desjardins last patrolled the back end in 2005-06 and coach Peter Laviolette wants to take advantage of his big shot.

Pavel Kubina is interested in signing a contract extension with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers acquired Kubina from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. "If I play well for this team and they want me, I don't want to go anywhere and test the water," Kubina said. "That is the way I am and hopefully it will go that way."

The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired Pavel Kubina from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a second and a fifth round draft pick. In Kubina, the Flyers are getting a veteran blueliner who is responsible defensively and can eat up minutes. He won't come close to replacing the void left by Chris Pronger, but between him and the recently acquired Nicklas Grossman, Philadelphia's defensive corps is looking a lot better. Their goaltending is still a question mark, but the Flyers will be a dangerous team to play against in the playoffs.

The NHL still has to approve the trade, but it looks like the Tampa Bay Lightning have sent Pavel Kubina to the Philadelphia Flyers. Tampa Bay had been preventing Kubina from playing until he was traded. We don't know what the Flyers gave up yet, but getting Kubina makes sense for them, given their defensive woes lately and the absence of Chris Pronger.

Pavel Kubina was a healthy scratch on Thursday. Kubina, who has a no-trade clause, has been asked to provide the Lightning with a list of teams he'd be willing to be dealt to. Lightning GM Steve Yzerman doesn't plan on allowing Kubina to play until "this situation is resolved." Bench Kubina for now.

Pavel Kubina has been asked for a list of teams that he would be willing to accept a trade to and he won't play for the time being. He didn't take part in the team's morning skate on Thursday and isn't expected to suit up versus San Jose. "In the interim, we've decided to protect our interest and keep Pavel off the ice until this situation is resolved," GM Steve Yzerman said. Kubina has been attracting interest from other clubs and Yzerman said that he would explore any deals that have the potential to benefit the organization's future.

Pavel Kubina is excelling in his enhanced role as a shutdown blueliner. The Lightning have been forced to lean on Kubina more than they had originally played to due to both Victor Hedman and Mattias Ohlund missing either a significant chunk, or in Ohlund's case, all of the season to date. Kubina has some fantasy value in leagues that use PIM, hits and blocked shots as categories, but he can no longer be counted on to put up fantasy-worthy offensive numbers.

Pavel Kubina scored his second of the season in Tampa's 2-1 OT loss to Colorado. Kubina used to be one of the better fantasy defensmen in the league, but the veteran's value has diminished greatly over the passed few seasons. He's only projected to post low teens points, making him a low quality fantasy option. He does pick up some decent PIM's but not good enough to warrant the low point totals and mediocre +/- in your lineup.
