Although there have been reports to the contrary, Kyle Wellwood currently has no plans to attend the San Jose Sharks' training camp. Wellwood and the Sharks haven't been in contact about the possibility of an invite on a professional tryout basis. Wellwood is an unrestricted free agent after recording six goals and 15 points in 39 games with the Winnipeg Jets last season.

Kyle Wellwood suffered a long-term hand injury Monday night, which will likely end his season. He blocked a shot from Thomas Vanek in the second period and returned to finish the stanza, but didn't play in the third. Nik Antropov is projected to be available to play and take Wellwood's place in the lineup.

"Against Washington, we wanted to utilize a little bit more speed in the game and throughout the lineup." Wellwood's fitness has come into question before, but it doesn't sound like Noel was trying to send a message to the shifty forward.

"I'm amazed how smart he is, the hockey sense he's got," Jokinen said of Wellwood. "He can play with any player and make any player better. He's such a great little player. I'm amazed how good he is in these two days I've seen him." He compared Wellwood to his former Florida teammate Josef Stumpl and Kane drew lofty comparisons to Calgary's Jarome Iginla. "He's got good wheels, he's got an unbelievable wrist shot, he loves to score goals and he's a shoot-first guy," Jokinen said of Kane. "He's the type of player that Iggy was in Calgary, too." The trio may stay together to open the year, but it's not set in stone yet.

Kyle Wellwood has agreed to terms with the Winnipeg Jets. The team declined to reveal the terms of the deal. Wellwood had 18 goals and 47 points in 77 games last season.

The Sabres may be looking for a second or third tier center during Sunday's free agent signing frenzy. Kyle Wellwood is a name that has been mentioned as has former Buffalo player Dominic Moore. However if the Sabres are going to be players on Sunday it is more likely they would chase after a bigger bodied pivot such as Olli Jokinen or Jason Arnott. We will watch with interest.

With time ticking down to July 1st it is not clear if the Jets plan on re-signing Kyle Wellwood to a contract before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Wellwood had a surprisingly effective 2011-12 campaign with 47 points but the Jets want to get bigger up front and the 5'10" 180 pound Wellwood is not much of a physical presence on the ice.
