Jaroslav Spacek was signed by CAR on Friday January 18.

Jaroslav Spacek announced his retirement from the NHL on Monday. Spacek had a nice NHL career, playing in 880 games for seven different teams. The Rokycany, Czech Republic native also had some fantasy moments on someone's roster in pools that used defensemen. He was at his best on the power-play in Edmonton and Buffalo.

Jaroslav Spacek is apparently willing to re-sign with the Carolina Hurricanes, but GM Jim Rutherford said that kind of move would be "premature" for the team at this time. The veteran defenseman will be an unrestricted free agent if the Hurricanes don't give him a new deal prior to July 1. Rutherford said earlier this month that the organization probably wouldn't get a contract done with Spacek before free agency began and it looks like he is sticking with that plan for now.

Carolina GM Jim Rutherford said that Jaroslav Spacek will probably be permitted to test free agency. Rutherford said that a contract for the pending unrestricted free agent likely won't happen prior to July 1. Spacek notched five goals, 15 points, 68 blocks and a plus-6 rating in 46 games between Montreal and Carolina in 2011-12.

Jaroslav Spacek (lower body) will return to the lineup Thursday night in Carolina's final home game of the 2011-12 campaign. Coach Kirk Muller said that the Hurricanes will feature seven defensemen against the Montreal Canadiens. Spacek has missed the past eight games with a lower-body injury.

Jaroslav Spacek missed Tuesday's loss to the New York Rangers because of a lower back injury. He was replaced on the Hurricanes blueline by AHL call-up Bobby Sanguinetti, who was a former first-round draft pick of the Blueshirts. Spacek has recorded five goals, seven assists and a plus-4 rating in 32 games with Carolina this season. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Jaroslav Spacek wasn't traded elsewhere at the trade deadline and Carolina GM Jim Rutherford said the team may re-sign him at the end of the year. Spacek is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, but if he wants to stay with the Hurricanes then he could get an offer.
