McBain is trying to resurrect a once-promising career as a second-unit NHL power-play guy, but is likely ticketed to start 2017-18 in the AHL. McBain does have 110 points in 348 career NHL games.

The 28-year-old defenseman doesn't have a point, and has a -1 +/- this year, so he hasn't provided much value yet this year at the NHL level. If he clears waivers, he'll report to AHL Tucson.

McBain has offered little in terms of fantasy value through the first two games of the season, despite averaging 2:25 of power-play ice time per night.

EDGE Analysis

McBain's statsheet is limited to two shots on goal, one blocked shot, and a minus-2 rating. Owners expecting more out of the 28-year-old due to his inclusion on the second power-play unit will likely join the chorus of fans calling on McBain to be scratched from the lineup.

McBain scored his first goal of the season on a first-period power play in Tuesday's shootout win over the Flyers.

EDGE Analysis

Despite the tally, McBain skated only 13:09 in this one -- a dreadfully low figure for a defenseman. It's nice that he's seeing some power-play time and that he managed to score, but McBain's teased us with his offensive potential in the past, and it's always been fool's gold. With only four points and nine shots in 12 games this year, he's going to need to show significantly more before he becomes an advisable fantasy play in standard formats.

McBain will not play for the Kings in Monday night's road tilt at Chicago due to the birth of his child, Helene Elliot of the LA Times reports.

EDGE Analysis

Although McBain will miss Monday night's game against the Blackhawks, this is likely not something that will keep him out of the lineup for very long. He could possibly return as soon as Tuesday night when the Kings play at St. Louis. Derek Forbort and Jeff Schultz could draw into the lineup as a result of McBain being out on Monday.
