Tallinder was released Wednesday from his professional tryout at AHL Hartford, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports. A rash of injuries on the Rangers' blue line in November prompted the team to bring Tallinder and Tomas Kaberle in for tryouts, but an opportunity to join the parent club never materialized. With the Rangers now at relative health on defense, Tallinder will leave the organization in pursuit of an opportunity for work elsewhere.

Tallinder has been given a professional tryout with the Rangers' AHL affiliate, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports. Tallinder had a tryout with the Maple Leafs earlier in the season but was released with no contract offer. The Rangers are without captain, Ryan McDonagh, so if Tallinder is signed by the Rangers he could offer some experience on the Rangers blue line. Last season with Buffalo, Tallinder played 64 games while scoring two goals and six assists.

According to eye witnesses the injury "didn't look good". If Tallinder misses significant time the likelihood that the defenseman will claim a roster spot as a seventh defender may be in serious jeopardy.

Considering the immense struggles the Maple Leafs had on the back end last season, Tallinder could have decent odds of claiming an opening night roster spot as a seventh defenseman. He appeared in 64 games with the Sabres last season, scoring two goals and adding eight assists while averaging 19 minutes of ice time per contest.
