Ellis is listed on the team's NHL roster, but will not dress for Wednesday's Game 4 in Philadelphia, Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
After starter Braden Holtby left Tuesday's practice early, Ellis's recall is likely for precautionary reasons. The 35-year-old veteran appeared 43 games with the Caps' AHL affiliate in Hershey, posting a 2.38 GAA and a .908 save percentage.

Ellis made 12 saves in relief of Braden Holtby during Washington's 4-3 shootout win over Montreal on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Ellis hasn't conceded a goal during two preseason appearances for the Capitals, who signed him to a one-year, two-way contract in July. Ellis should see plenty of action with AHL Hershey this season, but is unlikely see any time in the NHL this season, and is not fantasy relevant at this time.

Ellis signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Capitals on Saturday, Alex Prewitt of The Washington Post reports. The 35-year-old will provide Washington with additional goaltender depth at the AHL level, but likely won't get asked to make many NHL starts in 2015-16, as he'll probably slot in as the Caps' fourth string goaltender behind Braden Holtby, Philipp Grubauer, and Justin Peters. However, Ellis was solid when called upon by the Panthers last season, going 4-3-1 with a 2.35 GAA and a .914 save percentage in eight games with Florida.

Ellis was reassigned to AHL San Antonio on Thursday. Ellis was called up by the Panthers on March 4 on an emergency basis, so with Al Montoya (groin) finally ready to return from a long-term absence, Ellis will be required to head back to San Antonio. Over his eight appearances with the Panthers, Ellis did well to keep the team competitive, going 4-3-1 with a 2.35 GAA and .914 save percentage.

Ellis surrendered four goals on 28 shots in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Canadiens. Ellis filled in on the second game of a back-to-back set, and with the Panthers officially eliminated from the playoff chase with just two contests remaining, it's possible the 34-year-old saw his last action of the season Sunday. He had performed well in limited action, but the four goals and .857 save percentage were both season-worst outputs for Ellis, as he fell to 4-3-1 on the year after being recalled from AHL San Antonio in March.

Ellis will start Sunday's game against the Canadiens. Ellis draws Sunday's start for Florida against the Habs, on the heels of Panthers' 4-0 loss to Lightning on Saturday, started by Roberto Luongo. Ellis will take aim Sunday at a Montreal squad that has dropped three straight decisions by a combined tally of 13-9.

Ellis is expected to start Sunday's game against the Canadiens, the Miami Herald reports. With Saturday's loss to Tampa Bay killing the Panthers' slim hopes of making the playoffs, Ellis could see an extra start or two over the final week of the season. He's done well with the bit of work he's received this year, putting up a 4-2-1 record, .922 save percentage and 2.11 GAA.

Ellis turned aside 25 of 27 shots in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Senators. Ellis improved to 4-2-1 with the win as he filled in Sunday in the second game of a back-to-back set. The 34-year-old has proved reliable in limited action since being recalled at the beginning of March, posting a .922 save percentage and 2.11 GAA. That said, he likely won't see too many starts down the stretch and could return to AHL San Antonio once Al Montoya comes back from a groin injury.

Ellis is slated to start Sunday's game against the Senators, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports. Per the report, coach Gerard Gallant indicated that Roberto Luongo is a little sore in the wake of Saturday's game against Montreal and will thus give way to Ellis (who last started on March 17) on Sunday.
