VandeVelde was released from his professional tryout agreement by the Senators on Tuesday.

At this point, it's unclear what's next for the 30-year-old as he may have to settle for an AHL-only contract or head overseas if he wants to continue playing.

Having played nearly every game for the Flyers over the past three seasons, VandeVelde will have a shot to make the Sens in a similar bottom-six role that he filled in Philadelphia. Though he's far from the most offensively gifted player in the league, VandeVelde was able to produce 15, 14, and 15 points in the past three seasons, respectively, as well as logging at least 114 hits in each of those campaigns. Unlike many of the other players agreeing to PTOs around the league, VandeVelde is a player that seems to have a realistic shot of landing on an Opening Night roster.

VandeVelde won't be in the lineup for Sunday's game against Carolina, Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post reports.

The winger will miss his first game of the year in the last contest of the season. With no games remaining, VandeVelde's season is over with only 15 points in 81 games, so he didn't have a great year.

VandeVelde entered the game averaging 13:18 of ice time through his previous five games, but the addition of Valtteri Filppula will likely continue to cut into VandeVelde's playing time. The minute hit is warranted, too. The 29-year-old pivot has just a single assist through his past 34 games, after all. VandeVelde is completely off the fantasy radar.

VandeVelde has recorded a single assist while averaging just 12:37 of ice time through his past 20 games.

EDGE Analysis

The 29-year-old veteran was well on his way to a career year before the cold stretch, and he'll still likely top his previous career-high 15 points this season. His fantasy value remains limited, though. Without a promotion up the depth chart or more consistent offensive production, VandeVelde can be ignored in all virtual settings.

VandeVelde scored a goal and added an assist in Sunday's 5-3 victory over Calgary.

EDGE Analysis

The depth forward now has four points over a three-game point streak to give him seven in 22 contests this year. With an average ice time of less than 11 minutes per game and an assignment in the Flyers' bottom six, it's unlikely this hot streak will continue. That said, it's always wise to cash in on players while they're rolling, so he might be worth a look in daily formats in the short-term.

VandeVelde (upper body) will practice Monday and has been cleared to play by GM Ron Hextall, Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly reports.

The fourth-liner departed after just 1:21 of ice time in Saturday's game against the Lightning with the injury, but apparently it wasn't serious enough to hold him out of additional game action. His presence in the Flyers' lineup doesn't have much fantasy significance, anyway, as VandeVelde has just three points, 14 shots on goal and a minus-5 rating in 19 games this season.

VandeVelde has been ruled out of the remainder of Saturday's game against the Lightning with an upper-body ailment.

EDGE Analysis

CSN Philly's Tim Panaccio believes VandeVelde is likely dealing with a concussion or concussion-like symptoms, but at this point there's been no official word on the exact nature of the 29-year-old forward's injury. The Flyers' should provide another update on VandeVelde's status once a timetable for his return to action is established.

VandeVelde scored a second-period goal and registered three shots on net during Wednesday's game against Detroit.
