Goalie Start: Ward starts for the Hurricanes on Sunday. dailyfaceoff.com Sun 11/2/14 7:56 PM

Ward stopped all 25 shots that he faced in the 3-0 win over the Coyotes last night. It was Ward's first shutout since March of 2012 and the Canes first win on the season. It has been a struggle so far and despite getting in the win column last night, they will be in tough tonight vs. the Kings.

Ward gave up three goals on 24 shots in a 4-1 loss to the Canucks on Tuesday. He is 0-3-1 with a 3.95 GAA and .840 SV% to start the season. Carolina is still without a win, so stay away from Ward and Anton Khudobin for now.

Ward surrendered five goals on 24 shots in a loss to the Flames last Thursday. Well, Ward has picked up where he left off last year, but that is not in a good way. He has a 4.25 GAA and .829 SV% in three starts, but the return of Eric Staal tonight should help out the entire team. Regardless, until he proves he can keep the opposition under three goals, he can't be trusted.

Ward's season started on a sour note. He allowed five goals on 26 shots in a 5-3 loss to the Islanders. Anton Khudobin did not do much better the following night, so the Hurricanes will give Ward another shot on tonight. He draws a great matchup vs. the Sabres, so expect a bounce-back performance.

DAILY PRIME - OCTOBER 11, 2014: CANES FULL-NELSONED BY ISLES primepucks.com Sat 10/11/14 8:52 AM

ALL RANKINGS HAVE BEEN UPDATED. There is no denying that the New York Islanders will not only be a much improved team this year, but a pretty explosive team at that. It's only one game, and against the Carolina Hurricanes at that, but the Isles are packing quite a punch alright.  John Tavares, who we expect to crack the 100-point plateau, was the not the leading scorer in last night's 5-3 victory over the Canes. It was none other than Brock Nelson, the 22-year old Center who had 2 goals and 2 assists while JT had 3 assists. If Nelson can continue getting some quality ice time with Tavares and put up points consistently, he may make a solid 5-6 forward on your fantasy team....New defensive addition, Johnny Boychuk, seemed to fit in just fine as he netted a goal to go along with 2 assists and posted the most PP time amongst Islander defenseman. Boychuk has shown flashes of offensive brilliance, especially the year before playing full time in Boston when he went 2045-65 in 78 games for the 2008-2009 Providence Bruins.  Might be worth a flier if he sticks on the power play with Tavares and company..... It could be a long season for the Canes as they start the season with Jeff Skinner being injured and G Cam Ward picking up where he left off last year not being able to put together a solid effort. The veteran should recover, but time and patience may be running out in Carolina as Anton Khudobin had a spectacular year in net when Ward was injured last season.

Goalie Start: Ward will start the Hurricanes season opener on Friday. dailyfaceoff.com Thu 10/9/14 2:56 PM

Ward finished the preseason with a 1-1 record while posting a 2.80 GAA and .887 SV% in 50 minutes of playing time. He is coming off of an injury plagued season where he posted a 3.06 GAA, which was his worst since his rookie season. On Friday, he will get the call against an improved Islanders team.
