Vermette netted the game-winning goal in Game 5 Saturday against Tampa Bay.

Vermette has come through in the clutch this postseason, scoring three game-winning goals -- second-most in the NHL. He's scored two game-winners in the Stanley Cup Final alone and is a key reason why the Blackhawks have a shot at winning the Stanley Cup Tuesday in Game 6. While he's only put up seven points, the trade deadline acquisition is sporting a solid plus-5 rating and has shown he can deliver when it matters most.

Vermette notched his third goal of the Stanley Cup playoffs with the game-winner in the Stanley Cup Finals Game 1 on Wednesday night.

The Blackhawks were hoping that Vermette would pick up some of the scoring slack after being acquired from the Coyotes and Patrick Kane out with an injury in the regular season. He was definitely a disappointment by only registering three assists in 19 games. While he has not done much in the post season, he has rung up some key goals including Wednesday night's score and registered the winning goal over Anaheim in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Western Conference Finals.

Vermette tallied an assist and won eight of his 12 faceoffs in Wednesday's Game 6 win over the Ducks.

Three of Vermette's five postseason points have come in the last three games, helping him atone for a miserable start to his Blackhawks career. With linemate and prized rookie Teuvo Teravainen beginning to pick up his performance in the Western Conference Finals, Vermette could start to become a larger focal point of the Blackhawks' offense for the duration of their stay in the playoffs.

Vermette supplied the game-winning goal in double overtime of Saturday's Game 4 victory over the Ducks.

After serving as a healthy scratch in Game 3, Vermette rewarded coach Joel Quenneville's decision to slot him back into the lineup by rebounding his own shot attempt and putting the puck past the Ducks' Frederik Andersen in the game's 85th minute. The center also won 14 of 20 faceoffs in the contest, which should be enough to guarantee his place in the lineup for the remainder of the series.

Vermette, who was a healthy scratch for Game 4 in the Stanley Cup Western Conference Finals, will be in the lineup for Game 5 on Saturday night against the Ducks, ESPN Chicago reports.

Both Vermette and Teuvo Teravainen were healthy scratches for Game 4. The lack of offense in the 2-1 loss in Game 4 gave Hawks' coach Joel Quenneville a change of mind for Game 5. Teravainen and Vermette rejoined Patrick Sharp on the Blackhawks' third line during the team's morning skate at the United Center on Saturday.

Vermette was a healthy scratch Thursday for Game 3 because head coach Joel Quenneville wanted fresh legs on the ice, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Vermette and Teuvo Teravainen were both scratched for Game 3, but both were out of the lineup due to fatigue rather than injury. During Tuesday's marathon game in Anaheim, Vermette logged 21:14 minutes on the ice. After being rested Thursday, Vermette should draw back in Saturday for Game 4.

Vermette scored his first goal as a Blackhawk and went plus-1 with a pair of penalty minutes in Tuesday's Game 4 triple-overtime victory against Nashville.

Vermette managed only three points -- all assists -- in 19 games with Chicago after coming over in a deadline deal, and he was held off the scoresheet in his 2015 playoff debut Sunday. However, he made his presence felt this time by winning 12 of 20 faceoffs and finally breaking through in the goal column. That should be enough to keep Vermette in the lineup, at least for a little while.

Vermette will rejoin the lineup for Game 3 Sunday against the Predators, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Vermette was scratched from the first two games for performance-based reasons, but will re-enter the lineup Sunday as the Blackhawks look to retake the series lead against the Predators. The team hasn't clarified yet who will sit in his place.

Vermette will be a healthy scratch for Game 1 of the Blackhawks' first-round playoff series against the Predators, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Coach Joel Quenneville suggested that Vermette's scratch was for performance-based reasons, as his no goals and three points over 19 games with the Blackhawks clearly registered as a disappointment. Even so, it's still surprising that Vermette will be banished to the press box, considering that the Blackhawks gave up a 2015 first-round pick to the Coyotes in February to acquire him. Perhaps the team is already writing Vermette off as a sunk cost.

Vermette went without a point in Saturday's regular-season finale against the Avalanche, giving him no goals and three assists over his 19 games with the Blackhawks.

Even during his time as the Coyotes' top center earlier in the season, Vermette was never regarded as a premier scorer, but rather for his competence in a variety of different facets, most notably the faceoff circle. However, the Blackhawks surely expected more than the three points he provided upon coming over prior to the trade deadline, especially since he was flanked by far superior talent than he often played alongside in the desert. Vermette's ineffectiveness could end up costing him ice time during the playoffs, or quite possibly, his lineup spot, as he wasn't skating on a regular line during Monday's practice, according to CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers.
