A source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootballtalk free agent Randy Moss has a "tentative" agreement to join FOX as a commentator. The deal isn't finalized, but "no glitches currently are expected." Joining FOX would likely make Moss' retirement official. Now 36 years old, Moss drew few nibbles in free agency due in large part to the facts his athleticism and explosion have evaporated, and Moss was only open to ideal team scenarios.

Profootballtalk.com reports free agent Randy Moss will only sign with a team that offers the right combination of quarterback, compensation, role, and prospects for contending. In other words, Moss' career is likely over. He's clearly not the same player, at the age of 36, that he once was. Moss also isn't worth the headache. If he never plays another down, he'll be eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2018.

49ers GM Trent Baalke declined to comment on whether free agent Randy Moss has contacted him. "I can't say whether he has or hasn't. Once again, nobody's off limits. Nobody." Baalke was responding to a question from a reporter -- he didn't bring up Moss on his own. It remains an extreme longshot that the Niners will bring back the 36-year-old Moss after he posted a meager 28/434/3 line for them last year. Baalke seems intent on letting A.J. Jenkins, Kyle Williams and Ricardo Lockette battle for the starting job opposite Anquan Boldin.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports the 49ers "have had no recent contact" with free agent Randy Moss "before or after" Michael Crabtree's injury. Moss, 36, reportedly "would listen" if the 49ers called, but the team appears set to move on with its younger receivers or pursue a trade. Moss has kept quiet since the season ended, and nobody knows for sure if he wants to keep playing.

Free agent Randy Moss is still undecided on if he wants to continue his playing career. CBS Sports' Mike Freeman reported two months ago that teams were interested in Moss, but the 36-year-old was uncertain about his future. Things haven't changed, and the clubs that were interested in Moss have likely moved on.

CBS Sports' Mike Freeman reports teams are interested in free agent Randy Moss, but he has gone silent on his plans for 2013. Moss is still deciding whether to continue his playing career. Moss isn't viewed as a starter, but some teams believe he can be a valuable part of their receiving corps. The 36-year-old would likely only consider signing with a contender.

One of free agent Randy Moss' 49ers teammates thinks the receiver will play one more season. "I think Randy wants to play again," said another teammate. "I'm just not sure he wants to go to another team and have to learn another system." If Moss can't find a contender willing to sign him, it's expected that he will hang up the cleats -- again. We don't expect teams to be beating Moss' door down for his services.

A tweet from free agent Randy Moss on Saturday indicated he's been informed he won't be retained by the 49ers. "Wished we could've finished the job!!" Moss tweeted, referring to the Niners' Super Bowl loss. "Thanks for the opportunity an(d) good luck in the future 9ers." Rotoworld free-agent wiz Nick Mensio ranks Moss 11th among available receivers, behind the likes of Kevin Ogletree, Jerome Simpson, and Donnie Avery.

According to Profootballtalk.com, the 49ers "were making it clear" at last week's NFL Combine that free agent Randy Moss won't be re-signed. It's not surprising. Moss complained about his role leading up to Super Bowl 47, and his production underwhelmed on the field in 2012. A stiff, upright receiver lacking explosive ability, he's obviously lost a lot of his athletic fluidity at age 36. Moss will not be coveted on the free-agent market.
