Johnson is expected to be released but could return to the team on a veteran's minimum deal, NJ.com's Dan Duggan reports.
EDGE Analysis
Duggan notes that the Giants' signing of Rhett Ellison when free agency opened Thursday signaled that Johnson would likely be released after playing out one year of a two-year, $2.3 million contract. That said, it does appear that a return on a minimum contract could be in the cards for Johnson. The 28-year-old hybrid back had six total touches for 23 yards and a touchdown last season.

Johnson (neck) is back in the weight room and nearing a full recovery, 247Sports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After signing a two-year deal with the Giants last summer, Johnson landed on injured reserve before the 2016 season started due to a neck injury. He's now back in the weight room and appears fully recovered, as evidenced by Johnson's Instagram video from Thursday of himself deadlifting 300 pounds three times in a row. Given his progress to date, the West Virginia product should be good to go for OTAs come April.

Johnson (shoulder) was placed on IR on Monday, Ralph Vacchiano of Sportsnet New York reports.
EDGE Analysis
Johnson suffered a stinger early on in the preseason and hadn't returned since. He had an MRI done on his shoulder which he claims came back clean, but the doctors didn't know when he would get strength back in his arm, so the Giants decided to shut him down for the year.

Johnson (neck) will not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Jets.
EDGE Analysis
Also absent is Matt LaCosse (knee), who has been battling Johnson, among others, for the No. 3 tight end role. Jerell Adams and Ryan Malleck figure to handle most of the second-team work in Saturday's game.

Johnson suffered a stinger during Friday's preseason victory versus the Dolphins, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Inked in the offseason, Johnson was listed among the tight ends on the Giants' first unofficial depth chart of the preseason. While he'll miss a few days of practice, his ability to line up in the backfield should help him earn consistent snaps on a week-to-week basis.

The Giants and Johnson agreed to a two-year contract Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
An undrafted free agent in 2011, Johnson was active for all but one game with the Steelers since making his NFL debut in 2012. However, his usage was scaled back last season due to the presence of Roosevelt Nix, who logged more snaps on both offense (14 versus eight percent) and special teams (55 versus 49 percent). Upon joining the Giants, Johnson's ability to line up at fullback, running back, and tight end should help in the competition with fellow FB Nikita Whitlock.

Johnson was inactive Sunday for Pittsburgh's game against Denver.
EDGE Analysis
The unrestricted free agent, continued to excel in his role as lead blocker this season, with the Steelers' rushing game finishing eighth in the league with a 4.4 average per carry. Johnson extended his consecutive regular season games played streak to 47, the third longest active consecutive games played streak among NFL fullbacks, but had just four carries for seven yards, and caught two of four targets for another 16 yards. As important as he is to Pittsburgh, Johnson has no fantasy relevance whatsoever.

Johnson ran for seven yards and a touchdown on four carries in the Steelers' 28-21 loss to New England.
EDGE Analysis
The touchdown run capped a drive that saw DeAngelo Williams gain 46 yards on four carries to the Patriots' one-yard line, frustrating fantasy owners hoping to capitalize on the absence of Le'Veon Bell (suspension).

Johnson is expected to serve as DeAngelo Williams' top backup in Thursday's regular-season opener against the Patriots, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Mark Kaboly reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Le'Veon Bell suspended for the first two games of the season, Johnson will work behind DeAngelo Williams, possibly even getting a good chunk of the passing-down work. The Steelers will probably be heavily reliant on their passing game, and Johnson is still unlikely to get more than a handful of touches. The 240-pounder is listed as the starting fullback on Pittsburgh's initial depth chart.

Johnson has re-signed with the Steelers, pennlive.com reports. Johnson signed his one-year $1,542,000 contract tender with the Steelers and will thus reprise his fullback/special teams duties with the team in 2015. He carried the ball just twice (for zero yards) and caught six passes for 41 yards this past season, his third with the Steelers, so the 26-year-old is off the fantasy radar.
