Sidney Rice has retired from the NFL after 7 seasons. Rice is just 27 years old, and theoretically should be in the prime of his career. But Rice has missed a total of 31 games in his seven seasons. He's reportedly retiring because of a history of concussions. Rice was knocked out a number of times in his playing career and also was trying to return from a torn ACL. What once looked like a promising career after an 83-catch, 1,312-yard, 8-touchdown 2009 season with the Vikings has ended in sad fashion. Rice caught a total of 243 passes for 3,592 yards and 30 scores. He went to one Pro Bowl.

ESPN Seahawks reporter Terry Blount considers Sidney Rice the "odd man out" at receiver entering training camp. Blount left Rice off his initial 53-man roster projection. Rice doesn't contribute on special teams and has lost a considerable amount of explosion after numerous injuries. If he's not a top-three receiver, Rice doesn't bring much to the team. He's competing with rookie Kevin Norwood and special teamer Ricardo Lockette for a roster spot. Rice brings zilch to the table in terms of fantasy value.

Rice was re-signed by the Seahawks Wednesday to be part of the group that replaces Golden Tate, not the whole answer. Percy Harvin, Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse will get plenty of snaps in the Seattle's run-heavy scheme.

Free agent Sidney Rice is visiting the Jets. After locking up Chris Johnson earlier Wednesday, the Jets are now turning their attention to Rice. Rice was just cleared for football activities earlier this week, five months after tearing his ACL. He and GM John Idzik know each other from their days together in Seattle. Rice would be a passable No. 2 receiver opposite Eric Decker with Jeremy Kerley manning the slot. Rice should be cheap.

ESPN Panthers reporter David Newton considers free agent Sidney Rice a "long shot" to sign in Carolina. Rice would be a good fit with the Panthers and shouldn't be expensive, but Carolina has next to no money to spend and doesn't have a lot of ways to create more cap space. The Seahawks have over $15 million in cap room and would be our guess for Rice's landing spot on an incentive-based, one-year deal.

ESPN New York doesn't expect the Giants to make a serious run at free agent Sidney Rice. Rice was linked to the Giants, along with the Panthers, Seahawks, and Saints, by Profootballtalk on Monday. The G-Men could get involved if Rice's market is colder than expected, but they're not looking to dish out much cash. The Giants could use a No. 2/3 receiver type, but they're not in dire need of one with Rueben Randle and Jerrel Jernigan ready to take the next step behind Victor Cruz.
