Seahawks Offense: Still a Fantasy-Friendly Operation? rotoballer.com Sun 2/7/21 10:02 AM

In Seattle Seahawks history, some of the most successful teams and eras have been defined by a strong running game.In the franchises first decade of becoming a playoff contender in the 1980s, the offense was labeled as Ground Chuck under head coach Chuck Knox. The 2005 NFC Champion Seahawks were heavily based around MVP winner Shaun Alexander. Marshawn Lynch was a signature player on the two Super Bowl teams of the past decade. So after a stunningly decisive loss to the Rams in the NFC Wild Card ...

One of the ideas that's been in the minds of impressionable fantasy owners for who-knows-how-long is that running backs have a breaking point after a certain amount of carries. It's a tiring argument that stems from some very high profile cases including Terrell Davis, Clinton Portis, and Shaun Alexander, who all managed to hit the big 350+ and then fall off the earth the following year. The Fire Sale - Week 2 fantasysharks.com Tue 9/9/14 9:06 AM5 Comments

The first week of the NFL season is in the books and the Fire Sale is here to break things down. I'm making a slight tweak to the format of my column. I'm going to keep the players who are "Going Up" and "Coming Down" each week. However, I'll also be adding a Sneaky Starts section for the upcoming week. I used to do Sneaky Starts when my column was written elsewhere and it was a popular feature, so I thought I would bring it back. Let's see how it goes. Oh, and the worst running back drafter on the planet obviously selected Andre Ellington and Toby Gerhart in every league possible. I'm running back mush. Now on with the Fire Sale... Going Up Knowshon Moreno , RB Miami -- I think I finally have Moreno pegged. He's Shaun Alexander. The guy hates to practice. If you remember Alexander, he had a reputation for hating practice. I'm starting to think Moreno may hate practice, too. The last couple of summers Moreno had some kind of injury that made fantasy owners undervalue him. Then when the regular season kicks off, Moreno is all of a sudden healthy again and looks great. Coincidence? I said coming out of college that Lamar Miller reminded me of Felix Jones. In case you don't get the reference, that's not a compliment. Miller is better than Jones but it comes as no surprise to me that it took Moreno all of five minutes to become the primary ball carrier in Miami. Granted, as someone who started Moreno in place of Ellington, I could have done without Miller vulturing a score, but I can't complain about 134 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. Miller is still going to get on the field but Miami has to like what they saw out of Moreno in Week 1. He's gone from a first round bust to one of the most underrated players in the NFL. As long as Moreno can stay healthy, he'll be one of the bigger steals in fantasy drafts this year. Ahmad Bradshaw , Indianapolis -- I thought Bradshaw looked good on Sunday night. He didn't get many carries but playing as the primary pass-catching back, Bradshaw caught five passes for 70 yards. The biggest thing to take away from the game though is Bradshaw looked 100 percent healthy. Like last season with Donald Brown, owners just have to be patient with Bradshaw. We have to play the game with the Colts. Sooner or later their coaching staff will get tired of watching Trent Richardson run up the backs of his linemen and Bradshaw will eventually replace him. I thought Curtis Enis had retired but I guess I was wrong. ...

Turn the Page: 10 Players to Pass on in 2014 Drafts fantasysharks.com Thu 1/9/14 9:06 AM

There comes a time when it becomes necessary to just let things go. That favorite old "Huey Lewis and the News" tee shirt just simply doesn't hold up anymore and a trip to the curb beckons. It is no easy task to say goodbye and let it go. However, the stains along with the holes have begun to outnumber the stitching and family members have begun to mention "a certain smell" that accompanies the attire. You see where I'm going with this, right? In fantasy football there also comes a time when players have ‘hit the wall' and no longer garner the fantasy relevance they once held. That stud RB that led your team to a 2010 championship can't stay healthy or has seen his role reduced to short yardage specialist. That speedy WR that brought home the hardware back in 2011 has lost a step and a lot of his ability to hold on to the ball. Trust me. As a one time Marshall Faulk owner who just couldn't say goodbye I know of what I speak (write). As the snow and temperatures fell at an alarming rate here in my home state of Michigan last weekend I decided to do a little fantasy ‘house cleaning.' The following is a list of players that are no longer welcome on my draft board heading into the 2014 season. Ray Rice , RB, BALTIMORE: It may well have been a troublesome hip issue that helped lead to the paltry 660 yards rushing and four-touchdown performance for Rice in 2013. Maybe that is why he saw the lowest number of targets (73) and receptions (58) since his rookie season of 2008 and put up only 321 yards receiving. Or maybe, logging over 1,500 touches prior to last season over a five-year span have left Rice as a spent RB at the ripe old age of 27. Coming off of a season in which he posted career lows in both yards per carry and yards per reception I am officially moving on from Rice. Thanks for the memories Ray but this has the look of a Shaun Alexander scenario written all over it. Oh yeah, one final nail in the fantasy coffin. Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is also talking about setting up more of a RB "timeshare" moving forward. Ouch. Marques Colston , WR, NEW ORLEANS: After a frustrating season in which Colston put up five games with less than 50 yards receiving and another five in which he failed to hit 75 yards it's time to say adieu. He posted his lowest yardage total since 2008 when he was limited to 11 games and also registered his lowest touchdown total since that same season with five. You have to go back to 2009 to find a reception ...

Against the Odds - Week 15 fantasysharks.com Thu 12/15/11 1:00 PM

Let's begin with a review of how accurate Vinnie has been against the spread, 14 weeks in: 39-33-3 Seattle Seahawks @ Chicago Bears (-3.5): The over/under is 36 points as of late Wednesday, which appears to be lower than that of any other game; this tells you what you need to know. The Bears' offense is atrocious, with no Matt Forte to bail Caleb Hanie out. Albeit versus lesser competition, Seattle's defense is no slouch here lately. Marshawn Lynch faces a stiff challenge from Chicago's defense of course, but this beast of a man has now tied Shaun Alexander's team record for consecutive games with a touchdown. Tarvaris Jackson is mixing it up with Golden Tate and Doug Baldwin as needed, capably leading his team to wins. Seattle remains in postseason contention, folks. Speaking of which, these two teams last tangled in the second round of the NFC playoffs, following Seattle's dramatic victory over New Orleans. Chicago may have won that day, but you would do well not to anticipate similar results this time. Gimme the Seahawks plus the points. Cincinnati Bengals @ St. Louis Rams (+6.5): This is one of those match ups that probably smacks of "Who cares?" to some. The Rams have regressed to arguably the least competitive team in the league, losing four straight (most of them blowouts), while the Bengals have dropped four of their last five. Listen, a playoff worthy team would have found a way to get through that stretch more intact, but there is little shame in struggling against Pittsburgh twice in one month, Baltimore, and Houston. Cedric Benson and possibly Bernard Scott figure to have a field day against the Rams putrid run defense, Sunday, while Andy Dalton will enjoy his full complement of receivers per the usual. Cincinnati's defense, which lost some of its luster in said five-game stretch, ought to be just fine against a Rams offense hamstrung by poor blocking and Sam Bradford's injuries. Quick tip: Cincinnati has gone 5-1 versus the spread in road games, whereas St. Louis has gone 1-5 versus the spread at home. Gimme the Bengals minus the points. New York Jets @ Philadelphia Eagles (-2): The Jets have a rough history against Philadelphia, and you might be looking at New York's 8-5 coupled with Philadelphia's 5-8 record and wondering what gives. New York has looked like the best team in the AFC East at times, albeit not often, but has also looked like the worst team in the division other times. The best thing Philly has going is LeSean McCoy; he's ...
