Richardson (neck) has been cleared for on-field, non-contact workouts, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 2015 season came to an abrupt close for Richardson, who sustained the second herniated disc of his career and subsequently underwent cervical spinal fusion. Receiving clearance to work on the field -- sans contact, of course -- is an encouraging sign in the special teamer's quest to return to the NFL. However, his former employer, the Packers, has been stingy in the past with players boasting neck concerns -- see Jermichael Finley and Nick Collins -- so it's unclear if Richardson will ever achieve his ultimate goal.

Richardson (neck) intends to continue his NFL career, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. "Why quit if I'm healthy?" he said this week. "My thing is I still have love for the game, I still want to play and I feel healthy. I told my family if my neck gives me problems, I was going to hang it up. But if I felt normal...then I'm going to give it a shot."
EDGE Analysis
Richardson has been afflicted with neck issues throughout his four-year career, including herniated discs that brought both his rookie campaign and 2015 season to an abbreviated end. During his sole healthy campaign in 2014, he developed into a key cog of the Packers' special-teams unit, picking up an offer sheet from the Raiders last offseason that the Packers ultimately matched. He'll have to pass a physical in order to prove his health, but another one-year deal is likely the best he can expect considering his checkered medical chart.

Richardson (herniated disk) has been placed on the season-ending injured reserve, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
This move shouldn't come as much of a surprise considering Richardson was expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering his second herniated disk of his career. The Packers have been ultra-safe with neck injuries in years past, having refused to clear Nick Collins and Jermichael Finley recently, so it's fair to question if we've seen the last of Richardson.

Richardson has a herniated disk in his neck and is expected to miss the rest of the season, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
The injury is reportedly similar to the one Richardson suffered in 2012 which required neck fusion surgery. Given that the Packers have been very conservative with neck injuries -- they refused to clear Nick Collins or Jermichael Finely in recent years -- it's reasonable to wonder if this latest injury could jeopardize Richardson's career.

The Packers have matched the one-year, $2.55 million offer sheet that Richardson signed with the Raiders last week, ESPN.com reports. Now that he'll being staying with the Packers, Richardson -- who recorded 25 tackles in 16 games for Green Bay this past season -- slots in as the team's No. 3 safety behind starters Morgan Burnett and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. Moreover, Richardson is in line to reprise his key special teams role with the team.

Richardson, a restricted free agent, has signed an offer sheet with the Raiders, ESPN's Andrew Brandt reports. The Packers have until Monday to match the offer, and they won't get any compensation if they decline. Richardson has yet to start a game in the NFL, and he projects as a backup on both teams.

ESPN Packers blogger Rob Demovsky expects S Sean Richardson to see "even more playing time" this week and down the stretch. We haven't had an update on Richardson since October, when it was revealed that he could continue his playing career after undergoing fusion surgery on his neck late last season. Richardson has appeared in the past two games, playing 22 snaps. The Packers are looking for a safety to play next to Morgan Burnett. M.D. Jennings and Chris Banjo have been liabilities on the back end.

Packers S Sean Richardson (neck) said he's close to 100 percent, and he expects to be ready for training camp. Richardson, an undrafted free agent out of Vanderbilt last year, had surgery to repair a herniated disc in his neck in January. He says he's crossed three major hurdles, but he has two more tests to pass with the doctors. It's worth mentioning that Packers team docs wouldn't clear S Nick Collins after a similar procedure in 2011. Richardson expects to be back "soon."

The Packers expect Sean Richardson to be ready to practice in time for training camp following surgery on his neck, an NFL source told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. According to the report, the Packers expect Richardson to be ready to play next season, but it bears mentioning the team's doctors wouldn't clear Nick Collins after he had a similar procedure. Richardson missed the last five games of last season with the injury after making the team out of training camp.
