Ex-Dolphins and Vikings QB Sage Rosenfels has announced his retirement. A 2001 fourth-round pick of the Redskins, Rosenfels couldn't make it out of camp with the Vikings last season. Rosenfels appeared in 45 career games, but made just 12 starts. He was the definition of a career backup. He hangs it up with an 81.2 QB rating, 62.5 completion percentage and 30:29 TD:INT ratio to his name.

Vikings released QB Sage Rosenfels. It's a surprise because the Vikes guaranteed $500,000 of Rosenfels' salary upon re-signing him to a two-year deal in March. UDFA McLeod Bethel-Thompson has a chance to stick as the No. 3 quarterback.

Vikings agreed to terms with QB Sage Rosenfels on an undisclosed contract. It's likely a non-guaranteed, one-year pact after the Vikings claimed Rosenfels off waivers in December. A career clipboard holder, Rosenfels recently celebrated his 34th birthday, and has attempted zero passes since the end of the 2009 season. He'll provide veteran insurance behind Christian Ponder and Joe Webb.

The Vikings and free agent QB Sage Rosenfels reportedly have mutual interest in a new contract. There was once a time where Rosenfels had a legitimate claim as one of the top-32 QBs in the league, but he hasn't thrown a regular-season pass since 2008. He'll slot in behind Christian Ponder and Joe Webb if he re-signs with the Vikes.

The Vikings have informed impending free agent Sage Rosenfels that they want him back for the 2012 season. Rosenfels would mentor Christian Ponder while also allowing the Vikings to get more creative in their experimenting with wild card weapon Joe Webb. At age 33, Rosenfels would likely be limited to clipboard holding with the Vikes.

Vikings claimed QB Sage Rosenfels off waivers from the Dolphins. Rosenfels spent 2009 in Minnesota, but he's being claimed as a backup more because Joe Webb appears to be moving to wideout. Rosenfels should soon claim the No. 2 quarterback job behind rookie starter Christian Ponder. The Texans were rumored to have some interest in Rosenfels, but the Vikings had a higher waiver priority. Houston will move forward with T.J. Yates and Jake Delhomme.

The Houston Chronicle's John McClain reports the Texans have no interest in QB Sage Rosenfels, waived by the Dolphins on Thursday. "[Coach Gary] Kubiak likes T.J. Yates," McClain offers by way of explanation. Kubiak is also comfortable with Jake Delhomme as the No. 2 QB because he's thrown well, picked up the offense quickly, and already embraced a mentoring role with Yates. Kubiak may revisit the issue in a couple of weeks if Yates falls flat on his face against two contenders the next two weeks.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Sage Rosenfels is healthy, and that the mystery illness that landed him on the non-football illness list before his release was mono. Rosenfels' player rep Rick Smith has also confirmed he's back to full health. Yahoo Sports' Mike Silver lists the Vikings, Cowboys, Titans and Bears as teams who might have interest in Rosenfels, but believes he'll most likely clear waivers, allowing him to sign with whomever he wants beginning on Monday.

Dolphins waived QB Sage Rosenfels from the non-football illness list. The Texans are reportedly content with their three quarterbacks, but that will be tested with Rosenfels now available for the price of a waiver claim. Rosenfels has three years of experience in coach Gary Kubiak's offense and would be an immediate upgrade on rookie T.J. Yates if he's over the mysterious blood infection that sent him to the NFI list in late October.

NFL.com's Jason La Canfora reports that the Dolphins will not release Sage Rosenfels from the non/football illness list. The Texans were going to have interest in Rosenfels if the Fins waived him, but after a Monday meeting between Rosenfels and Dolphins brass, Miami has decided to keep him on the NFI list. It's unclear if Rosenfels, who's been dealing with a mysterious blood infection, would have been healthy enough to play anyway. The Texans will move forward with T.J. Yates as their starting quarterback. Kellen Clemens is currently No. 2 on the depth chart.
