A fifth-rounder in 2014, Carrethers appeared in 20 games for the Chargers and collected 41 tackles along the way. However, he has been a healthy scratch in each game this season and was subsequently waived in order to make room for the addition of CB Steve Williams.

Chargers rookie NT Ryan Carrethers is still working with the second-team defense during OTAs. Carrethers is a better fit for the nose tackle position than current starter Sean Lissemore, but coach McCoy hinted Carrethers has struggled to learn the playbook. "The most important thing is you learn the system," said McCoy, "And you've got to understand what you're supposed to do." Carrethers will eventually get the playbook down and figures to play meaningful snaps this season.

Chargers signed fifth-round NT Ryan Carrethers to a four-year contract. The Arkansas State product stands 6-foot-1 and 337 pounds. The Bolts don't have much depth at the nose, so Carrethers could play very meaningful snaps in year one. He only has underwhelming Sean Lissemore in front of him.
