Pitoitua (hand) had surgery on Monday, but is expected to be ready for Tennessee's season opener against the Chiefs, John Glennon of The Tennessean reports. Pitoitua broke his hand in the Titans' preseason win over the Falcons last Saturday. Following surgery, he was fitted with a club-like cast, and he should be good to go for Week 1's road game against Kansas City.

Pitoitua broke his hand in Saturday's preseason game against Atlanta. It's the second time in as many years that Pitoitua has broken his hand. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt relayed to Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean that the defensive lineman, who had four sacks last season, will sit out Thursday's preseason finale, but is expected to play in the regular season opener against Kansas City.

The Nashville Tennessean reports there's been "movement" in contract talks between the Titans and free agent DE Ropati Pitoitua. The 29-year-old (in April) run plugger is coming off a solid season, and is a fit for new DC Ray Horton's hybrid 3-4. Pure run stoppers are often disappointed with what they find on the open market, so Pitoitua would be unwise to turn down a fair offer ahead of Tuesday.

The Nashville Tennessean believes the Titans will attempt to re-sign free agent DE Ropati Pitoitua. Pitoitua had just four sacks last season, but projects as a good fit for new DC Ray Horton's hybrid 3-4 scheme. He turns 29 in April and graded out as a top-ten defensive end against the run by Pro Football Focus. Pitoitua is doubtful to command much guaranteed money, but figures to draw interest as an early-down run plugger if allowed to hit the open market.

The Titans opened training camp with Ropati Pitoitua as their starting left end, and Derrick Morgan on the right side. The Titans appear to be borrowing concepts from the Seahawks, using 6-foot-8, 315-pound Pitoitua as their Red Bryant and Kam Wimbley in the Bruce Irvin role. Morgan will be the Chris Clemons, and Sammie Lee Hill the Brandon Mebane. Jurell Casey is the three-technique tackle. The idea is to limit Wimbley's snaps, keeping his legs fresh, and utilize Pitoitua as an early-down run plugger.

The Nashville Tennessean cautions to not be "surprised" when Titans DE Ropati Pitoitua lines up as a starter in Week 1. Derrick Morgan and Kamerion Wimbley are easily the Titans' top two edge rushers, but the coaching staff wants to rotate the two more this season in order to keep them fresh. Pitoitua (6-foot-8, 315) was signed to a one-year deal, and he brings some much-needed beef to a defense that was gashed by the run in 2012. Expect Pitoitua to anchor the strong side when he's in the game.

Titans agreed to terms with DL Ropati Pitoitua, formerly of the Chiefs. Pitoitua visited the Jets before signing in Tennessee. A rotational lineman with experience both on the inside and outside, Pitoitua will likely help man the middle for a Titans team that wants to get bigger up front. A mammoth 6-foot-8, 315 pounds, Pitoitua played 505 snaps for the Chiefs last season, tallying 51 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

Free agent DL Ropati Pitoitua visited the Titans Wednesday. The Titans are interested in getting bigger along their defensive line, and the 6'8/315 Pitoitua certainly fits the bill. He had 51 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble in a rotational role as a 3-4 end with the Chiefs last year. The Titans likely view Pitoitua as a tackle in their 4-3.
