Former Lions DE Ronnell Lewis was arrested on suspicion of DUI early Monday morning. This comes just two months after Lewis pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of disturbing the peace and public intoxication. The Lions released the 2012 fourth-round pick two weeks ago.

Lions waived DE Ronnell Lewis, WR Cody Wilson, and CB Myron Lewis and released S Chris Hope. Lewis, last year's fourth-round pick, wasn't expected to make the team. The Lions brought in four new defensive ends in the offseason, and Lewis was involved in a bar fight in the spring. Hope is a 12-year veteran.

MLive.com doesn't envision DE Ronnell Lewis making the Lions' final roster. Jason Jones and first-rounder Ziggy Ansah are locked in as starters, while Israel Idonije, Willie Young, and fourth-round rookie Devin Taylor are favorites for the three backup spots. Lewis was a fourth-round pick last season, but played just one snap as a rookie and was involved in a bar fight this past spring.

Speaking Tuesday, coach Jim Schwartz indicated the Lions' patience is wearing thin with DE Ronnell Lewis (undisclosed, NFI list). "We only have eight full padded practices in training camp, and this was the second one," Schwartz said of Lewis' absence Tuesday. "Anything you miss is stuff that you can't get back." Lewis, of course, is doubly hurt by the fact that he was arrested in April. Lewis played just one snap last season. His roster chances are looking dim.

Lions DE Ronnell Lewis pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of disturbing the peace and public intoxication, and received a six-month deferred sentence. A third misdemeanor was dismissed. Lewis paid $400 in fines. The arrest occurred on April 20, subjecting Lewis to a league-imposed suspension under the NFL's personal conduct policy. Because this is Lewis' first arrest in the NFL, it's still quite possible he'll avoid immediate discipline.

Lions DE Ronnell Lewis' lawyer expects a "favorable resolution" to his April arrest on charges of disturbing the peace, public intoxication and interfering with official procedure. "My hope is that one of the counts will be dismissed and then we'll get a deferment on the other two for a short period," Lewis' lawyer said. "That's my expectation." Lewis is due in court next month. Ticketed for a backup role, the case shouldn't affect Lewis' roster spot.

Lions DE Ronnell Lewis was arrested and charged with three misdemeanors for his role in a weekend bar fight in Norman, Okla. The former Oklahoma Sooner is charged with disturbing the peace, public intoxication and interfering with official procedure. It's a minor incident in the grand scheme of things, but not a good look for a 2012 fourth-rounder who played just one snap on defense as a rookie. Lewis will fight for a rotational role along the Lions' remade defensive line in training camp.

DetroitLions.com confirms the Lions view fourth-round pick Ronnell Lewis as a defensive end. Lewis is under-sized for an end at 6-foot-2, 253 pounds, but the Lions care about raw pass-rushing skill more than anything else when it comes to their "Wide Nine" formation. Nevertheless, Lewis' defensive snaps will be limited as a rookie, and it's still possible he could be shifted to outside linebacker somewhere down the line.

Lions signed fourth-round DE Ronnell Lewis to a four-year contract. Built like franchise player Cliff Avril, Lewis stands just under 6-foot-2 and weighs 253 pounds. Lewis was pegged by most draftniks as a future 3-4 outside 'backer, but the Lions don't discriminate against size in pass rushers for their "Wide Nine" scheme. Lewis will fight for scraps on defense as a rookie.
