Bironas passed away Saturday night in a single-car accident in Nashville, Tenn., NFL.com reports. Following the tragic loss of their former kicker, the Titans released the following statement:"We are deeply saddened to hear the tragic news from last night about Rob Bironas. Rob made a significant impact as a player in his nine years with the team and more importantly touched many lives in the Nashville community off the field. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Rachel, and his family during this very difficult time."

Bironas was brought in for a tryout at Buccaneers' training camp Wednesday, the Tampa Tribune reports. Despite indications that projected starter Connor Barth will make a successful comeback from the ruptured Achilles' tendon that forced him to miss all of 2013, Tampa Bay spent a portion of Wednesday looking at additional kickers. Bironas was released by the Titans in March, as he was scheduled to earn approximately $3 million this season.

Titans released K Rob Bironas. Bironas, 36, inked a two-year, $6.675 million deal with the Titans last spring and has spent his entire nine-year career with Tennessee. He went 25-of-29 on field goals, drilling 7-of-10 from 40-plus yards out. Bironas has an 85.7 percent success rate on field goals throughout his career. The Titans save $3.125 million.

Titans re-signed K Rob Bironas to a two-year deal. Bironas, 35, has been with the Titans for all eight seasons of his career, and he's never missed a game. Bironas made just 25-of-31 field goals in 2012, recording his worst single-season percentage since 2006. He has a strong leg, though, and has made 22-of-31 from 50-plus yards in his career. Bironas would be a better fantasy kicker of Jake Locker were a better NFL quarterback.

The Titans are in a "holding pattern" with free agent K Rob Bironas. Bironas was considered a franchise-tag candidate by the Nashville Tennessean two weeks ago, but it looks like that will go to TE Jared Cook. Bironas, 35, has a strong leg, but he put up his worst field goal percentage last season since 2006.

The Nashville Tennessean considers K Rob Bironas a candidate for the franchise tag with the Titans, but says a long-term deal is more realistic. The franchise tag for kickers carries a $2.928 million price, but the Titans seem intent on using the tag on TE Jared Cook because a new deal with him isn't expected soon. Bironas, 35, hit 24-of-30 field goals in 2012 and produced 37 touchbacks on kickoffs.

Titans K Rob Bironas said he is hoping for a contract extension before the season starts. Bironas is entering the final year of a four-year, $12 million deal he signed in 2009. He's coming off a career-year, highlighted by a 6-of-7 mark from 50 yards out or more. Bironas said he won't hold out, but also won't negotiate once the season starts.

Titans K Rob Bironas plans to keep kicking into his 40s. Bironas, 34, is keeping his leg fresh by annually taking off the first four months of the offseason. It's obviously worked so far. Over the past two seasons, Bironas has nailed 53-of-58 field goal attempts (91.4 percent), and in 2011 tied for second in the AFC with 44 touchbacks. He's now entering a contract year.

Coach Mike Munchak brushed off any concern over K Rob Bironas' start to camp. Bironas has been erratic, but he's one of the most accurate kickers in the game. After making 24-of-26 field goals last year, he'll have a ton of leash. And with Matt Hasselbeck in town, the offense figures to be in scoring position more often. The 2011 Draft Guide ranks Bironas as the No. 11 kicker available.
