Saints released DT Remi Ayodele.

Saints agreed to terms with DT Remi Ayodele, formerly of the Vikings. The 29-year-old Ayodele was the Saints' starting nose tackle in 2009 and 2010 before washing out as a free agent bust in Minnesota last season. He could be a big contributor right away on running downs in New Orleans. Ayodele knows the system, plays a need position, and is coming nice and cheap.

Vikings released DT Remi Ayodele. The move doesn't clear any cap space, but does take the Vikings off the hook for Ayodele's $2.2 million base salary. Ayodele struggled mightily in Minnesota's scheme last season, failing to attract double teams on the nose and generating no pass rush. His possible involvement in the Saints' bounty scandal didn't help Ayodele's chances of keeping a roster spot, either.

The Vikings' signing of DTs Fred Evans and Letroy Guion could lead to the release of Remi Ayodele. Guion's signing clouded Ayodele's future while Evans' may have sealed it. Ayodele was a bust during his first year in Minnesota last season, proving highly ordinary as a run stuffer.

Vikings DT Remi Ayodele was demoted out of the starting lineup Monday. Ayodele had started eight games this season, but had just three tackles during that span. On Monday, rookie Christian Ballard got the nod. Ayodele signed a three-year, $9 million contract with the Vikings back in July.

Barring an injury to Ayodele or another down lineman in camp, it appears they won't be bringing back free agent NT Pat Williams. Ayodele is strictly a two-down run stopper and not a particularly good one at that. We'd expect the Vikings to be easier to run on this season with Williams and LB Ben Leber on the outs.
