ESPN's Ed Werder confirms that Ravens Lewis (triceps) expects to return when eligible against Peyton Manning in Week 15. Lewis did not practice yesterday, which was the first day he was eligible to begin workouts with teammates. It sounds like his innovative rehab program is progressing, though, and he will be ready to face Peyton Manning on December 16.

Coach John Harbaugh is now referring to Ray Lewis (triceps) as "day by day." The Ravens haven't confirmed a report from earlier this week stating that Lewis will return before the end of the season. But he's rehabbing at their facility and a return to practice soon hasn't been ruled out. Still, Lewis is not eligible to suit up for a game until Week 15 at the earliest and the Ravens are 9-2. They won't rush him. "He is not imminent to return to play (in a game) or anything like that, so to me it's really a nonstory," Harbaugh said Wednesday.

According to teammate Haloti Ngata, Ravens LB Ray Lewis (triceps surgery) has "vowed" to return for an 18th season in 2013. Lewis had previously suggested that he would take a look at the big picture after the season before making a decision. Perhaps the string of recent reports that he looked washed up the first six weeks of the season has galvanized his will to play in 2013. Lewis has been "designated for return" on injured reserve, but he's not expected to see the field unless the Ravens make it to the Super Bowl.

The Ravens placed Ray Lewis (triceps) on the "designated for return" injured reserve list. Coach John Harbaugh acknowledged that it's highly unlikely Lewis will return this season. But he said "we're going to keep the door open," perhaps in hopes that Lewis could give the team an emotional lift in a possible Super Bowl appearance. He's having his surgery Wednesday.

A Monday MRI revealed a complete tear of Ray Lewis' right triceps muscle, and he will be lost for the remainder of the season. The impact of Lewis' loss on Baltimore's defense is debatable -- some folks believe he's lost a step and his striking ability as a tackler -- but there's no doubt Lewis was still a productive middle linebacker. He was leading the Ravens in tackles through six games, and continued to be an every-down defender. Baltimore will either turn to Jameel McClain or Dannell Ellerbe to replace Lewis inside. Owed a non-guaranteed base salary of $5.4 million in 2013, it's fair to wonder if Lewis' Hall of Fame career has reached its end. He turns 38 next May.

According to Yahoo's Jason Cole, "there are several people" around the league who believe the Ravens might be better off without Ray Lewis, who's in danger of missing the rest of the season with a right triceps tear. Per Cole, "plenty of people around the league" say Lewis has lost a step. There was growing chatter to that effect leading up to Week 6. "I can't believe they still leave him on the field on third down," one former player said of Lewis. "You can see that he knows where to be, but he just can't get there. You can see he lost weight to maintain his quickness, but it's not working."

FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reports Ravens doctors believe Ray Lewis avoided a full tear of his right triceps, but think the tear still may be deep enough to shelve the future Hall of Famer for the season's remainder. Lewis was in too much immediate pain for doctors to get a clear read on his injury late in the fourth quarter Sunday, but he didn't reenter the game and was unavailable for comment afterwards. Lewis will undergo an MRI on Monday morning to determine the injury's full extent. The Ravens were already showing signs of run-defense leakage. If they lose their defensive captain, they'll become a defense to target for matchup purposes.

NFL Network's Jeff Darlington reports that the Ravens fear Ray Lewis tore his right triceps in Sunday's Week 6 loss to Dallas. Baltimore held off Dallas 31-29, but the win proved costly. Top corner Lardarius Webb may have torn his left ACL, and Lewis also might have suffered a year-ending injury. DT Haloti Ngata also sprained his knee. The Ravens have a date with the undefeated Texans next, so these injuries could start affecting them in the won-loss column as soon as Week 7. Although he's seemingly lost a step at age 37, Lewis led the Ravens in tackles on Sunday and remains a quality interior run defender.

Ravens MLB Ray Lewis will undergo an MRI Monday on his right triceps. There are no further details available, but the Ravens clearly believe something may be up. Lewis filled hard against the run in Sunday's win over Dallas, although the Ravens' run defense struggled as a whole. Lewis still finished the game with a team-high 14 tackles, eight coming of the solo variety.
