Former Bears and Lions receiver Rashied Davis has retired from the NFL. Davis, 33, brought value to his teams as a special teams player. He didn't play in 2012 after being released by the Bears in late August. Davis ends his seven-year career with 92 catches for 1,095 yards and five touchdowns.

Bears released WR Rashied Davis. Davis was nicked up with an undisclosed injury heading into final cuts. His release means Dane Sanzenbacher is a good bet to make the 53-man roster.

Lions WR Rashied Davis resumed practicing Thursday for the first time since injuring his foot more than three weeks ago. This is the first we've heard of the injury, which speaks to Davis' lack of an offensive role in Detroit. He'll be limited to special teams duties going forward.

Lions declared WR Rashied Davis, OT Jason Fox, S Erik Coleman, LB Justin Durant, SS Amari Spievey, RB Jerome Harrison, and QB Drew Stanton inactive for Monday Night Football against the Bears. First-round pick Nick Fairley is active and will make his NFL debut after suffering a stress fracture in his foot during the preseason. Coach Jim Schwartz told ESPN that he anticipates Fairley playing "12 to 15 snaps" against the Bears. Davis, Fox, Coleman, Durant, and Spievey are all banged up.

Rashied Davis has moved ahead of Derrick Williams as the Lions' No. 3 receiver. It doesn't say much for Williams that he's been passed by a special teamer. Matthew Stafford may have to lean more on his tight ends early in the season until rookie Titus Young (hamstring) gets up to speed.

Lions agreed to terms with WR Rashied Davis. Davis is primarily a special teamer and backup receiver at best. He'll just be depth and a locker room asset if he makes the team.

Free agent WR Rashied Davis says he expects to re-sign with the Bears this summer. Entering his age-32 season, Davis will not be in demand on the open market after notching just 14 catches while primarily playing on special teams the past two years. If the only team he's ever played for no longer wants him, his career could be over.
