The Broncos picked up the fifth-year option on Surtain's rookie contract Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The ninth overall pick in the 2021 Draft, Surtain so far has met expectations in his three-year career, earning back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances the last two seasons and even first-team All-Pro honors in his second campaign. Overall, he has seven interceptions among 36 pass defenses in 50 regular-season contests while averaging 63.6 tackles per 17 games played, making him a respectable option in IDP formats. With Tuesday's transaction, Surtain now is locked in in Denver through the 2025 season.

Surtain is expected to have his fifth-year option exercised by the Broncos, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Surtain had another individually successful campaign in 2023, recording a career-high 69 tackles, albeit while notching a career-low, one interception. However, the Alabama product remains one of the better corners in the league, so having his option picked up, and keeping him in Denver for at least two more seasons, makes sense.

Surtain made 69 tackles (59 solo) to go with 12 passes defended and one interception while playing in all 17 games across the 2023 season.
EDGE Analysis
Surtain's 69 total tackles were a career high for the third-year cornerback. In addition, he led the team in passes defended for the second straight season. Surtain has proven to be one of the league's best defensive backs, and he'll enter the final year of his rookie contract next season in Denver before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2025. The 23-year-old will look ahead to 2024 in the hopes to continue the impressive start to his young career as a difference-maker in Denver.

Surtain recorded five tackles (four solo), one interception and one pass defended in Sunday's 31-21 loss to the Jets.
EDGE Analysis
Surtain's interception Sunday was his first of the 2023 campaign, and his five total tackles in the contest matched his season-high through five games. The 23-year-old cornerback has proven to be an excellent corner in the league with the ability to make big plays on defense. With a solid start to the season under his belt, Surtain and the Broncos defense will face a big test in Week 6 when the Broncos visit the Chiefs.

Surtain (undisclosed) practiced in pads with the team Tuesday, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Surtain only did individual drills Monday and was able to make a quick recovery from whatever was keeping him away from being a full participant. The 23-year-old's return to full health is certainly good news for the Broncos' defense.

Surtain (undisclosed) worked out on a side field Monday instead of participating in practice, Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Surtain's inability to practice Monday suggests he's dealing with an injury, but coach Sean Payton doesn't expect the star cornerback's absence to linger. Per Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette, Payton said after practice Monday that he expects Surtain to be available for the team's next preseason game against the 49ers on Saturday.

Surtain made 60 tackles (45 solo) to go with 10 passes defended, two interceptions and one forced fumble while playing in all 17 games across the 2022 season.
EDGE Analysis
Surtain completed a strong second season in the Broncos' formidable secondary, leading the team in passes defended. The 22-year-old continues to prove why he was worth the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Surtain is still on his four-year rookie deal, so he remains under contract with the Broncos through the 2024 season. One of the league's young stars at cornerback, Surtain will look to build upon the impressive start to his career when he takes the field for the 2023 campaign.

Surtain (shoulder) is active for Sunday's game against San Francisco, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Surtain was expected to play Sunday night in spite of his questionable designation, so his status doesn't come as a major surprise. Over the first two weeks of the season, the 2021 first-rounder has racked up six tackles (five solo).
